 Joba Chamberlain-S- YankeesFeb. 3 - 12:24 pm et
Joba Chamberlain will be groomed as a starter this spring.
It's hardly news, if it all, but some in the Yankee universe are clamoring for Chamberlain to serve primarily as a setup man this season. He flourished in the role during last year's playoffs, but his future is in the starting rotation. Phil Hughes, Alfredo Aceves, Chad Gaudin and Sergio Mitre are also vying for the No. 5 spot this year. "It's something that's going to be a battle," Chamberlain said Tuesday. "The greatest part about it is it's not only going to make guys fight... it's going to make our team better."

 CC Sabathia-S - Yankees Oct. 13 - 2:14 pm et

During a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, manager Joe Girardi said the Yankees are "definitely considering" going with a three-man rotation against the Angels in the ALCS.
This means that C.C. Sabathia would pitch Games 1, 4 and 7, if necessary. Sabathia would be pitching on short-rest in Game 4, but would have regular rest headed into a potential Game 7. If inclement weather puts a wrinkle in Girardi's plan, look for Chad Gaudin, not Joba Chamberlain, to be used as the team's fourth starter.

Joba Chamberlain will remain in the bullpen for the entirety of the series, reports Joel Sherman.
That leaves Chad Gaudin to start in the ALCS should the Yankees opt for four starters. It was the obvious choice as the Yanks went undefeated in Gaudin's six starts. Compare that with Joba and his 7.75 ERA over his final 10 starts.

Joba Chamberlain will pitch out of the bullpen in Sunday's regular season finale as a tuneup for his role in the postseason.
Chamberlain seems fine with the move. "It's not something new so I have a plan on what I need to do to get ready because I've done it before," he said. "'m excited to get the ball in that situation and we'll go from there." The Yankees could change their mind in the middle of October and decide to start him, but, right now, it appears Joba is destined for bullpen duty in the playoffs.

 Joba Chamberlain-S - Yankees Sep. 30 - 10:39 pm et

Joba Chamberlain gave up three runs on seven hits and four walks in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Royals.
So much for any positive feelings generated by his nice outing against the Red Sox on Friday. Chamberlain should have been ready to throw six innings or so tonight, but it took him 91 pitches to get 11 outs against one of baseball's worst offenses. The poor showing should eliminate any slight chance there was of the Yankees choosing the shorter ALDS series and going with four starters. Chamberlain finishes his first full year as a starter 9-6 with a 4.78 ERA in 156 1/3 innings. In his defense, he was at 3.98 in mid-August before the Yankees started up with the schedule designed to protect him.
 A.J. Burnett-S - Yankees Sep. 26 - 2:28 pm et

According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, manager Joe Girardi has tinkered his rotation for next week's series against the Royals.
Chad Gaudin will start the first game on Monday, with A.J. Burnett going on Tuesday and Joba Chamberlain starting on Wednesday. Girardi could start a fresh Burnett or Andy Pettitte in Game Two of the ALDS.
