The Brewers and RHP Carlos Villanueva avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $950,000 contract.
He'll get slightly more than the arbitration figures that were exchanged last week. The 26-year-old right-hander compiled a 5.34 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 83/35 K/BB ratio in 96 innings with the Brewers last season, the majority of which were in relief. Hopefully he'll stay in the bullpen.

Carlos Villanueva requested $1.075 million from the Brewers and was offered $800,000 when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
This is Villanueva's first crack at arbitration eligibility and it appears he will do quite well for himself considering last year's results. The 26-year-old righty had a 5.34 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP and an 83/35 K/BB ratio in 96 innings for the Brewers, working mostly as a reliever. He must be better in 2010.

 Carlos Villanueva-R - Brewers Oct. 3 - 4:41 pm et

Carlos Villanueva allowed four runs over five innings in a win over the Cardinals on Saturday.
It wasn't a particularly impressive outing, but the Brewers offense was able to push five runs across thanks to some fielding miscues by the Cards, so Villanueva is able to cap off his 2009 campaign with a victory. This was only the sixth start of the season, who spent most of the year pitching out the Milwaukee bullpen. He finishes with 4-10 record and 5.34 ERA.

The Brewers will hand Saturday's starting slot to Carlos Villanueva.
Dave Bush was originally scheduled to go, but was scratched due to lingering effects from being hit by a line drive June 4. Villanueva will make his sixth start of the season. Coming out of the bullpen the rest of the year, the 25-year old has a 5.24 ERA in 91 innings.

 Dave Bush-S - Brewers Sep. 30 - 8:14 pm et

Dave Bush (triceps) will likely be shut down for the season.
He will probably skip his start on Saturday. "It's been a challenge," Bush said. "What you don't want to do is go out and do something stupid on Saturday and get myself in a position where it could affect me beyond that." Bush spent two months on the disabled list earlier this season with the triceps injury. Carlos Villanueva is one option to make Saturday's start.

 Manny Parra-S - Brewers Sep. 8 - 8:37 pm et

Manny Parra was pulled from Tuesday's start against the Cardinals after just one inning due to neck spasms.
Parra threw a scoreless frame in the top of the first inning and showed no indication of discomfort. It's safe to assume the injury isn't serious. Carlos Villanueva replaced him on the mound.
