Athletics acquired infielder Adam Rosales and outfielder Willy Taveras from the Reds for second baseman Aaron Miles and a player to be named later.
Rosales, 26, projects as a solid bench player -- at best. He batted .213 with four homers in 87 games during his rookie season, squandering his first extended trial in the majors. The A's, evidently, wanted a utility player who could play shortstop and the club felt that Rosales was a better fit than the jettisoned Miles.

 Willy Taveras-OF - Athletics Feb. 1 - 12:23 pm et

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Reds have traded outfielder Willy Taveras and infielder Adam Rosales to the Athletics for second baseman Aaron Miles and a player to be named later.
Billy Beane adds another fine defensive outfielder to his collection, but we're not sure how they'll all fit. The Reds really soured on Taveras after he batted just .240/.275/.285 in 404 at-bats last season. Miles was acquired from the Cubs along with Jake Fox in December. He'll continue to be worthless on Cincinnati's bench, if he makes the club at all.

 Adam Rosales-3B - Athletics Sep. 10 - 6:00 pm et

Adam Rosales went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Thursday to drop his average under the Mendoza Line.
Rosales is down to .196/.284/.301 in 219 at-bats. It's a must that he get hot if he expects to be considered for a spot on next year's bench. Odds are that the Reds will sign a veteran to play behind Joey Votto and the injury-prone Scott Rolen.
 Scott Rolen-3B - Reds Aug. 19 - 5:15 pm et

Scott Rolen (post-concussion symptoms) is expected to begin a rehab assignment for Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
He'll play for Louisville again on Friday, and if all goes well, he's expected to join the Reds on Saturday and be activated on Sunday. Adam Rosales has been filling in at third base.

 Scott Rolen-3B - Reds Aug. 11 - 6:16 pm et

Reds placed third baseman Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 8, with post-concussion symptoms.
Rolen has collected just 14 at-bats since his trade from the Blue Jays on July 31. He was hit in the head by a Jason Marquis pitch last week and hasn't been right since, experiencing headaches and dizzy spells. A few weeks of rest should do the trick. Look for Adam Rosales to fill in at third base.
 Adam Rosales-3B - Athletics Aug. 9 - 6:38 pm et

Adam Rosales collected three hits, including a two-run homer off starter Matt Cain, against the Giants on Sunday.
Rosales, who was filling in for the injured Scott Rolen, added a pair of singles in addition to his homer. He'll head right back to the bench if Rolen's concussion isn't serious.
