Chris Perez underwent surgery Thursday, removing a loose bone and cyst from the back of his left ankle.
Perez will resume offseason conditioning in December. After being acquired from St. Louis in the Mark DeRosa swap, the right-hander struck out 38 and walked 12 with a 4.32 ERA in 33 1/3 innings.

Chris Perez fanned three in two perfect innings out of the pen Thursday against the Tigers.
He's up to 19 2/3 straight scoreless innings. Perhaps just as remarkable is that he's gone 10 1/3 innings without issuing a walk. In parts of two seasons with the Cardinals, Perez gave up 27 earned runs and 37 walks in 65 1/3 innings.

Chris Perez has thrown 15 1/3 scoreless frames out of the Indians' bullpen.
It's the longest scoreless streak by a Tribe reliever since Rafael Betancourt tossed 19 straight shutout innings in 2007. Perez has rattled off 19 strikeouts against four walks during the stretch and is doing Cleveland management proud. The 24-year-old was picked up in late June from the Cardinals for third baseman Mark DeRosa, who is batting .237/.313/.443 with his new club.

Chris Perez will require offseason surgery on his left foot.
Perez, acquired from the Cardinals in June for Mark DeRosa, has an extra bone near his heel that bothers him during day-to-day activities. "I've been getting cortisone shots for it all year," the reliever said Thursday. The Tribe reportedly knew of the impending surgery before making the trade. He should be fine for the start of spring training in 2010.

Chris Perez has joined the Indians and will be available out of the bullpen on Monday night against the White Sox.
The Indians acquired Perez from the Cardinals on Sunday for utilityman Mark DeRosa. Perez had a 4.18 ERA and 30/15 K/BB rate in 23 2/3 innings for St. Louis this year.

Indians acquired RHP Chris Perez from the Cardinals for utilityman Mark DeRosa.
The Indians will also receive a player to be named later somewhere down the road. Typically those aren't big name guys, but it might be different in this case -- or at least should be. Perez is a nice relief prospect, but DeRosa has real value this year and probably could have drawn a more intriguing youngster. The 23-year-old Perez has a 4.18 ERA and 30/15 K/BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings for the Cardinals this year.
