Rockies signed RHP Huston Street to a three-year, $22.5 million contract extension with a $9 million player option for 2013.
The player option sounds scary, but it essentially works as a mutual option under the terms of this agreement. If Street exercises it, the Rockies can buy him out for $500,000. The 26-year-old right-hander will earn $7.2 million in 2010, $7.3 million in 2011 and $7.5 million in 2012. It's a hefty commitment, but Street amassed a 3.06 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 35 saves in 37 chances last season, so he should prove to be a worthy investment if he stays healthy. Fantasy owners should have no hesitation in selecting him among the first tier of closers on draft day.

Tracy Ringolsby of FOXSports.com reports that Huston Street has agreed to a three-year, $22.5 million contract with the Rockies.
The Rox also locked up Rafael Betancourt for the next two years on Tuesday. Street must take a physical before his extension becomes official, but he should pass the exam without any issues. The 26-year-old right-hander converted 35 saves last season while posting a 0.91 WHIP. He had been in search of a three-year $30 million contract as recently as December, so it appears Colorado management scored themselves a discount.

The Rockies have offered long-term contracts to arbitration-eligible players Huston Street, Clint Barmes and Chris Iannetta.
Street is apparently seeking something in the neighborhood of a 3-year, $30 million deal. If the club is unable to reach an agreement with any of the players, they will return on one-year contracts.

According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, the Rockies and closer Huston Street are far apart in negotiations on a long-term contract extension.
Street will hit the free agent market after the 2010 season. If the two sides can't come to an agreement by July, Olney believes the Rox might try to trade their closer. He converted 35 saves this season while posting a 0.91 WHIP. It may take a three-year, $25 million contract to lock him up.

Huston Street allowed three earned runs in the top of the ninth inning Monday as the Rockies were eliminated from postseason play by the Phillies.
Street entered the game with a two-run cushion and struck out the first batter he faced, Phillies utilityman Greg Dobbs. But Jimmy Rollins chopped an infield single, Shane Victorino got on base via a fielder's choice, Chase Utley walked and Ryan Howard hit a game-typing double to deep right field. Moments later, Jayson Werth put the Phils ahead with an RBI single. Street converted 35 saves and posted a 0.91 WHIP in the regular season, but truly had a poor showing this October. He's in his last year of arbitration eligibility.

According to the Denver Post, the Rockies have told closer Huston Street that they will discuss a multi-year extension with him this winter.
Street is entering his final year of arbitration and is likely to command a good chunk of change after converting 35 saves and posting a 0.91 WHIP this season. The Post's Troy Renck believes negotiations will have to start at three-years, $25 million. And they'll only go up from there.
