General manager Neal Huntington said Garrett Jones will play right field if Jeff Clement proves he can handle first base.
The original plan was for Clement to get a shot at first base in September so they could get a better roadmap for the position entering 2010, however an oblique injury put the kibosh on that. The Pirates have three options at the position in Jones, Clement and Steve Pearce, so we'll have to see how things shake out during spring training.

 Steven Pearce-1B - Pirates Sep. 7 - 3:52 pm et

Even though the Pirates were facing a lefty, Steve Pearce sat out a second straight game on Monday.
We have absolutely no idea what John Russell is thinking half of the time. Pearce is a borderline player, but he has hit .316/.422/.579 in his 38 at-bats against lefties this season. He's batted .338/.398/.600 against them in 80 at-bats as a major leaguer. If he's not playing against Ted Lilly, why is he even on the team?

Steven Pearce hit a two-run homer off Cardinals starter Joel Pinerio on Sunday.
The homer was his second of the season. Pearce hasn't been quite a regular since returning on July 23, but he is a solid 13-for-49 with six doubles, two homers, and eight walks. The Pirates will continue to play him at least semi-regularly, making him a fine play in most NL-only leagues.

Steve Pearce homered and doubled in a win over the Nationals on Friday night.
Pearce finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. With Adam LaRoche out of the way and Jeff Clement down at Triple-A Indianapolis for now, this might be his last gasp to take first base and run with it. He is batting .267 since his most recent recall.

Pirates recalled outfielder Steve Pearce from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Pearce should pick up a good amount of playing time at first base now that Adam LaRoche has moved on to Boston. He went just 1-for-12 during his last stint in the majors, so it remains to be seen if he'll have any value to NL-only leaguers. For what it's worth, he has shown a good amount of power on the farm.
 Steven Pearce-1B - Pirates Jul. 8 - 6:03 pm et

Pirates optioned outfielder Steve Pearce to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Pearce earned a promotion to the majors in mid-June after hitting .277/.363/.476 with 11 homers and 43 RBI at the Triple-A level. He didn't do so hot in the bigs (1-for-12, no homers, no RBI) and will head back to Indy, where playing time is more readily available.
