Mariners signed RHP David Pauley to a minor league contract.
The 26-year-old is 65-64 with a 3.98 ERA in nine minor league seasons, but has posted a horrific 9.53 ERA in 28 1/3 career major league innings. He has no fantasy upside and will serve as organizational depth for the M's.

Orioles sent RHP David Pauley outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
The Padres are desperate for pitching, but they declined to reacquire Pauley, who was part of the Dave Roberts trade after 2004. Pauley gave up 11 runs in 13 innings this spring.

Manager Dave Trembley said Tuesday that David Pauley has been ruled out as a candidate for the Orioles' rotation.
Pauley has an 8.18 ERA in five spring appearances after being acquired from the Red Sox in January, but still has a chance to claim a bullpen job. Now that he's out of the mix, the Orioles are left with Hayden Penn, Adam Eaton, Mark Hendrickson, Brian Bass, Alfredo Simon and Danys Baez for the three spots behind Jeremy Guthrie and Koji Uehara.

David Pauley surrendered two runs and eight hits in three innings Wednesday in his start against the Twins.
Pauley hasn't helped his case for a rotation spot with his performance on the mound, but the simple fact that he's been able to make all of his starts has helped his chances of winning a rotation spot. With Rich Hill questionable for the opener, Brad Hennessey doubtful and Matt Albers now out of the running entirely, Pauley has a legitimate shot even with a 7.71 ERA after four appearances.

David Pauley yielded one run on four hits over three innings Friday versus the Nationals.
He was facing a lineup that included just one regular, that being Cristian Guzman. Pauley has been better in his last two appearances after giving up four runs in one-third of an inning his first time out. Still, his chances of landing a rotation spot appear bleak, assuming that Rich Hill is able to make it back in time for the first week. He has an 8.53 ERA after three outings.

David Pauley was tagged for four runs in one-third of an inning by the Mets on Wednesday.
He still had a better day than fellow rotation candidate Brad Hennessey, who left the game with a sore elbow. However, he'll need to be a whole lot better from here on in if he's going to claim a spot. It might actually be best for the Orioles if he continues to struggle. He'd certainly clear waivers if that happens, and the team would be able to stash him away in Triple-A.
