Brewers claimed infielder Luis Cruz off waivers from the Pirates.
Cruz, 25, hit just .214/.282/.229 in 70 at-bats this past season with Pittsburgh and is likely to open 2010 at the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate. He's barely worthy of the term "prospect" at this point.

Pirates infielder Luis Cruz has been placed on waivers, a source confirmed to MLB.com's Jennifer Langosch.
The move will open up a 40-man roster spot in advance of Thursday's Rule 5 draft. The 25-year old is a non-prospect who now has the ability to become a free agent upon clearing waivers. Cruz is a light-hitting middle infielder who will probably open 2010 at a Triple-A club.

Delwyn Young is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday.
Young has been slowed by back trouble lately, but says that his back isn't currently an issue. Regardless, his absence from the lineup probably has something to do with the fact that he's gone 7-for-70 in his last 21 games. Luis Cruz got the start at second.

Ronny Cedeno was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with lingering discomfort in his fractured left pinky finger.
Cedeno missed Tuesday's game, as well as three straight games last week, with the same injury. He initially told Pirates manager John Russell that he could play Wednesday, but after taking infield and batting practice, Cedeno changed his mind. Luis Cruz fills in at shortstop again.
