 Mike Lincoln-R- RedsJan. 30 - 3:10 pm et
Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports that right-hander Mike Lincoln will get a chance to compete for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation.
It's a pretty harebrained idea. Lincoln, who turns 35 in April, hasn't made a start in the major leagues since 2000 and missed the latter part of the 2009 season after undergoing cervical disc replacement therapy in July. Nothing in his track record suggests he's durable enough to handle such an assignment. Micah Owings and Matt Maloney will probably have a say with the fifth spot, as well.

 Matt Maloney-S - Reds Nov. 13 - 5:55 pm et

Matt Maloney is hoping to crack the Reds' 2010 starting rotation.
As long as the Reds don't go crazy on the free agent market, he should get a fair shot. Maloney, who turns 26 this winter, posted a 3.08 ERA and 125/24 K/BB ratio in 22 starts at Triple-A Louisville this past season and went 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA in his final three starts on the big league level.

Matt Maloney has been scratched from his start on Friday against the Pirates because of a blister on his middle finger.
Justin Lehr will draw the start. The blister is on the same finger of a blister that hindered Maloney earlier this month. "The doctor today recommended that he not pitch for fear it could get worse," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "It's something that we don't want to become chronic." Maloney, now done for the season, finished 2-4 with a 4.87 ERA.

Matt Maloney yielded two runs over seven innings in a 10-4 win over the Astros on Friday night.
The Reds have won five straight. While Maloney was excellent on the mound, he drew a key two-out walk in the second inning, which eventually led to five runs against starter Brian Moehler. Maloney scattered six hits while striking out four and walking none. The only runs scored on a two-run homer by Kaz Matsui in the second. Maloney improved to 2-4 with a 4.87 ERA over seven starts this season. He has a chance to stick in the back of the Reds' rotation in 2010.

Matt Maloney allowed two runs over five innings, earning his first major league win against the Marlins on Thursday night.
He stepped in for Johnny Cueto, who was unavailable due to flu-like symptoms. Maloney was forced to leave his last start with a blister on his middle finger, so it was nice to see him pick up from where he left off. He scattered seven hits while fanning three and walking one, earning his first major league victory in six chances.
 Johnny Cueto-S - Reds Sep. 16 - 5:16 pm et

Johnny Cueto could have his Thursday start pushed back due to the flu.
"We'll back Cueto up if he's not feeling better," manager Dusty Baker said. "We sent him home. I doubt that he'll be better tomorrow. He might be but he'll probably feel weak." Matt Maloney will get the start against the Marlins on Thursday if Cueto is unable to go.
