Rick VandenHurk yielded two runs over six innings in a 7-2 win over the Phillies on Friday night.
VandenHurk gave up a two-run bomb to Ryan Howard in the first, but settled down for five scoreless frames after that. He fanned two and walked one, earning his first win since August 10. The 24-year-old Dutchman's season comes to a close at 3-2 with a 4.30 ERA. He's a potentially a useful arm, but he'll have a tough time locking down a spot in the rotation next spring.

Rick VandenHurk yielded just one run over six innings against the Reds on Friday night, but took a no-decision in an eventual 4-3 win.
Stepping in for Chris Volstad in the rotation, VandenHurk allowed just four hits, but unfortunately two of them were RBI singles. He fanned three and walked two in the no-decision. VandenHurk has allowed three runs or less in four out of his last five starts, but Friday was the first time he had completed six innings in a start since July 30. He's not a solid fantasy play.

Rick VandenHurk will draw the start Friday against Cincinnati.
The start comes at the expense of Chris Volstad, who has been struggling mightily as of late. VandenHurk left Sept. 8's game early with back stiffness but has healed since. VandenHurk is a risky play if you're in a playoff scenario.

Rick VandenHurk threw two side sessions over the weekend and reported no pain or discomfort in his back.
VandenHurk is likely to draw a start later in the week, especially with the way Chris Volstad pitched Sunday. For now, he's available in relief.

The Marlins will determine Thursday if Rick VandenHurk (back) is physically able to make his next start.
VandenHurk departed Tuesday's start with back stiffness after allowing one earned run over four innings against the Mets. The Marlins appear motivated to let VandenHurk pitch on Saturday against the Nationals, with manager Fredi Gonzalez saying: "We're going to give him an opportunity." Chris Volstad is the likely replacement if VandenHurk can't go.
