Giants designated RHP Osiris Matos for assignment.
Matos allowed seven runs -- six earned -- in a six-inning stay with the Giants at the beginning of this season. The 27-year-old was a little better at the Triple-A level, posting a 3.48 ERA in 54 1/3 innings. He could draw interest from another organization looking to stock up on bullpen depth for next spring.

Giants optioned RHP Osiris Matos to Triple-A Fresno.
Matos was called up on April 27 and allowed seven runs -- six earned -- in six innings of work. He'll work through the issues down at the Triple-A level and is likely to be recalled at some point before the All-Star break.

Matos had a 1.04 ERA in Triple-A ball this year. He will look to improve upon his 4.79 ERA in 20 relief appearances Giants last season.

Giants optioned first baseman-outfielder John Bowker and RHP Osiris Matos to Triple-A Fresno; reassigned C Buster Posey to minor league camp.
Even if it had been a fair fight, Bowker would lost the first-base job to Travis Ishikawa after hitting .211/.318/.351 this spring. Matos goes down after giving up five runs in 10 2/3 innings. He still figures into the bullpen plans for this year. Posey hit .300/.324/.533 in 30 at-bats in his first big-league camp.

Osiris Matos pitched another scoreless inning out of the pen Tuesday in the Giants' 6-4 victory over the Rangers.
He's given up one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings for the spring. The feeling was that the 24-year-old would return to the minors for the start of the year, but with Keiichi Yabu gone and Sergio Romo hurting, he suddenly seems like a good bet to have a bullpen spot.
