Cristian Guzman was held out of Monday's lineup with a foot injury.
Guzman is expected to miss Tuesday's game as well. "He's just tender," said interim manager Jim Riggleman. "He's got a situation there on his foot that he has tried to play through, and he keeps trying to play through, and it just keeps getting worse." Alberto Gonzalez filled in Monday.

Nothing to worry about as they are sitting with what manager Jim Riggleman calls "general aches and pains." Alberto Gonzalez will fill in at shortstop with Jorge Padilla getting his first major league start in left field.

Anderson Hernandez is now considered a utility player for the Nats.
Hernandez hasn't started at second base since Jim Riggleman took over as interim manager last week. He has worked in the outfield during pregame warmups and may collect a few starts there per week, but most of the playing time at second base will now go to Alberto Gonzalez.

Cristian Guzman was scratched from Friday's lineup due to foot bunions.
Alberto Gonzalez will start at shortstop with Willie Harris manning second base. "He said it's something that crops up every year. It was really sore today," interim manager Jim Riggleman said Friday afternoon about Guzman. "He thinks he might be OK tomorrow or the next day, whichever. It's basically day to day. It's too tender to do much on him today."

The Nationals are planning to give Alberto Gonzalez more playing time, mostly at second baseman Anderson Hernandez's expense.
Gonzalez is hitting a surprising .327/.381/.430 in 107 at-bats for the Nationals this season, and he's a fine defender at both shortstop and second base. It's doubtful that he'll establish himself as a quality regular, but he's at least as good a bet as Hernandez going forward.
