ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports that the Padres are "on the verge" of a one-year deal with free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba.
Torrealba batted .291/.351/.380 with two homers and 31 RBI last season for the Rockies. He was reportedly on the Mets' wish list after they lost out on Bengie Molina, but that club may be strapped for cash. The 31-year-old is likely to share time behind the plate with Nick Hundley in San Diego.

Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Padres are split on whether Nick Hundley is an everyday catcher.
Hundley, 26, batted .238/.313/.406 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 2009, but missed seven weeks with a small fracture in his left forearm. Now that Henry Blanco has signed with the Mets, Center speculates that the Padres could seek another catcher in the trade market.

Nick Hundley had surgery Wednesday to repair a sports hernia.
"I don't know how severe it really was," Hundley said. "I had regular treatment for the injury during the season and we kept it at bay. But it never got better... I'll be 100 percent by spring training." The catcher hit .237/.278/.359 in 256 at-bats this season while sharing time with Henry Blanco.

Nick Hundley went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI as the the Padres defeated the Rockies 5-4 on Thursday night.
Hundley homered in the fifth to put the Padres on the board, and later delivered a key tie-breaking RBI single in the eighth. He scored three times in the game and also stole a base, his third of the year. Overall, he's hitting .235/.313/.410.

Nick Hundley drew a pinch-hit game-winning walk in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Padres topped the Rockies 3-2.
The Rockies aren't supposed to be losing these types of games this late in the season, but some amount of credit must go to the Friars. Adrian Gonzalez and Chase Headley both drove in runs while starter Tim Stauffer delivered six innings of one-run ball. Hundley is batting .215 this season in 210 at-bats.

Nick Hundley hit a three-run homer off Kyle Lohse as part of Friday's win over the Cardinals.
