CONTRACT INFO: 2009: Near Minimum
 Justin Masterson-S- IndiansSep. 30 - 9:12 pm et
Justin Masterson struck out a career-high 12 in nine innings of one-run ball, but took a tough 1-0 loss to the White Sox on Wednesday night.
Not only were the 12 strikeouts a career-high, he had never reached double-digit strikeouts in a start until Wednesday. Masterson was tremendous, allowing just four hits while walking just two. The only run scored on a Paul Konerko RBI single in the sixth. Masterson may have taken his sixth straight loss, but this was an encouraging outing for someone who should be counted on highly in 2010. He finishes the year at 4-10 with a 4.52 ERA.
 Justin Masterson-S - Indians Sep. 23 - 10:22 pm et

Justin Masterson was tagged for eight runs -- six earned -- over four innings in an 11-3 loss to the first-place Tigers on Wednesday night.
Masterson was rocked for four runs in the first and allowed a pair of two-run homers after that. All told, he gave up seven hits while walking three and striking out two. Masterson has lost five straight decisions and is 1-5 with a 5.21 ERA over 10 games (nine starts) since joining the Indians.
 Roy Halladay-S - Phillies Sep. 13 - 11:56 am et

Bob Elliot of the Toronto Sun reports that the Red Sox offered the Blue Jays six pitchers for Roy Halladay at the trading deadline.
The names: Daniel Bard, Michael Bowden, Clay Buchholz, Felix Doubront, Nick Hagadone and Justin Masterson. That's quite an impressive array of names, and it's shocking Toronto didn't snap it up. The scout that revealed this deal said the Jays had difficulty projecting Masterson's future, and -- probably most important --- "the Jays were worried about Halladay beating them next year." Obviously, Masterson and Hagadone are no longer with the Sox club so it's unlikely a deal could be reached in the offseason. If it's going to take more than that package to land Halladay, GM J.P. Ricciardi won't find any takers.

 Justin Masterson-S - Indians Sep. 11 - 10:54 pm et

Justin Masterson held the Royals to one run over six innings as part of a tough-luck no-decision in an eventual 2-1 loss on Friday night.
Many recommended Masterson as a streaming option for Friday and though he didn't get the win, he held the Royals to just four hits while walking four striking out four. The only run was plated on an RBI groundout by Miguel Olivo in the fourth. Masterson has a 3.79 ERA in eight games (seven starts) since joining the Indians, but he has a lousy 30/26 K/BB ratio in 40 1/3 innings. He'll face the Twins next week.
 Justin Masterson-S - Indians Aug. 30 - 4:24 pm et

Justin Masterson coughed up five runs -- four earned -- in 5 2/3 innings of a loss to the Orioles on Sunday.
Masterson had trouble finding the strike zone today, walking four and throwing just 56 of 100 pitches for strikes. He did have enough life on his stuff to strike out six, but it was an inconsistent day for the young hurler. We'd stick with him in AL-only leagues when he gets the Twins later in the week.
 Justin Masterson-S - Indians Aug. 20 - 11:25 pm et

Justin Masterson allowed only one unearned run over 6 1/3 innings as the Indians beat the Angels 11-3 on Thursday night.
Masterson issued four walks while striking out three, but yielded just three hits and induced 13 ground ball outs. He has yet to allow a homer since joining the Indians, and will carry a 4-4 record and 4.36 ERA into his next start against the Royals.
