 Kenshin Kawakami-S- BravesSep. 21 - 10:19 pm et
Kenshin Kawakami picked up a four-inning save in Atlanta's victory over the Mets on Monday night.
Kawakami entered the game with an 11-3 lead and pitched extremely well in garbage time, needing only 49 pitches to work through four extremely efficient frames while allowing only one hit and striking out three. It was by far his best outing since transitioning into the Braves bullpen.

 Derek Lowe-S - Braves Sep. 17 - 10:54 am et

Braves manager Bobby Cox said Wednesday evening that Derek Lowe (blister) should be fine for his next start.
"I think he'll be all right," Cox said. "We'll see." Lowe departed after just two innings Wednesday with a nasty blister on his right ring finger. Hopefully a week of rest will allow it to heal. If things don't go as planned, Kenshin Kawakami would probably slide back into the starting rotation.

 Derek Lowe-S - Braves Sep. 16 - 11:59 pm et

Derek Lowe left Wednesday's start against the Mets after just two innings due to a blister on his right ring finger.
Lowe allowed three runs on five hits before exiting. If he has to miss a turn in the rotation, Kenshin Kawakami would likely step in.

 Kenshin Kawakami-S - Braves Sep. 5 - 9:36 pm et

Kenshin Kawakami will pitch out of the bullpen for the remainder of the season.
General manager Frank Wren stressed the move wasn't because of how Kawakami has been pitching -- 7-10 with a 3.97 ERA and the third-worst run support in the league over 25 starts. Manager Bobby Cox said Kawakami already has pitched as much as he did in Japan and this was one way to lighten the load. "It’s almost like I have to be OK with it," said Kawakami. He still figures to open 2010 in the Braves' rotation.

With Tim Hudson having returned to the rotation, the Braves' short-term plan is to skip Kenshin Kawakami's upcoming turn.
Kawakami has done nothing to get removed from the rotation -- he has a 2.87 ERA in his last six starts -- but the Braves have stated concerns about his workload. It's possible he'll only miss one turn, but the Braves clearly have a surplus of quality starters and going to have to determine a definitive solution going forward.

 Kenshin Kawakami-S - Braves Aug. 31 - 11:20 pm et

Kenshin Kawakami hurled six innings of one-run ball on Monday night, improving to 7-10 in a 5-2 victory over the Marlins.
Kawakami really seems to be settling in late in the season. Five of his past six starts have been of the quality variety, and he allowed only four runs in the other. Tonight he struck out five and walked none while scattering six hits, and was able to pick up the win thanks to a three-run outburst in the seventh inning that pushed the Braves ahead of the Fish for good. He'll match up against the Reds in his next start.
