Ross Detwiler threw five shutout frames Saturday against the Braves, but was left with a no-decision in the 6-4 extra-innings victory.
Detwiler walked four, but allowed just one hit against a solid Braves lineup. If his last two starts were viewed by management as an audition for the 2010 season, he undoubtedly scored some brownie points. The 23-year-old allowed only one run over his last 11 innings of work. Of course, that won't hide his 1-6 record, 5.35 ERA, or his 1.63 WHIP. He'll need to do some proving in the spring.

 Ross Detwiler-S - Nationals Sep. 28 - 10:38 pm et

Ross Detwiler picked up his first major-league victory on Monday night, holding the Mets to one run over six innings in a 2-1 Nats victory.
Detwiler yielded seven hits and a walk against three strikeouts in the solid effort. Detwiler has allowed only five runs over 18 2/3 innings in four outings (three starts) since being recalled from the minors earlier this month. He'll get one more chance to audition for next season when he faces the Braves this weekend.

Ross Detwiler held the Phillies to just one run over five innings on Thursday night, suffered a 4-2 tough-luck loss.
His first start since July 8, Detwiler was excellent, limiting the first-place Phillies to just four hits while walking one and matching a career-high with six strikeouts. The former first-round pick was 4-2 with a 3.10 ERA in 10 starts with Triple-A Syracuse before the promotion, so perhaps he's finally starting to get it in gear. With an impressive showing to finish the year, he should be considered for the starting rotation in 2010.

Nationals recalled LHP Ross Detwiler from Triple-A Syracuse.
Detwiler was 0-5 with a 6.40 ERA in 10 starts with the Nationals this season before being demoted on July 13. Though he struggled with the big club, the former first-round pick was 4-2 with a 3.10 ERA with Syracuse. He lines up for a likely start against the Marlins on Saturday.

Nationals optioned LHP Ross Detwiler to Triple-A Syracuse.
Detwiler was the odd man out in the Nationals' starting rotation re-organization. John Lannan, Scott Olsen, Jordan Zimmermann and Craig Stammen will stay, and Garrett Mock may get a look after the All-Star break. Detwiler, 23, was 0-5 with a 6.40 ERA in 10 starts for the Nats.

The Nationals rotation could have a different look after the All-Star break, Chico Harlan of the Washington Post reports.
John Lannan, Scott Olsen and presumably Jordan Zimmermann and Craig Stammen will make the first four starts, but just who will fill the fifth spot in the rotation is up for debate. Ross Detwiler has been awful of late, allowing five runs or more in three straight starts. Meanwhile, Garrett Mock, working as a starter with Triple-A Syracuse, has given up just two runs in his last 35 innings, putting up a sterling 28/3 K/BB ratio. He warrants a look.
