Indians signed 1B-OF Shelley Duncan to a minor league contract.
Duncan, 30, hit an impressive .277/.370/.546 with 30 home runs and 99 RBI this past season for the Yankees' Triple-A Affiliate in Scranton. He has a measly .219/.290/.411 batting line in 146 major league at-bats, but the Indians don't have a ton of power on their depth chart and he might find time as a pinch-hitter.

1B-OF Shelley Duncan has elected free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Shelley, the son of Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, is sure to draw interest from several organizations. He hit an impressive .277/.370/.546 with 30 home runs and 99 RBI this past season for Scranton.

Yankees outrighted first baseman-outfielder Shelley Duncan from Triple-A Scranton/Wilks-Barre.
This being Duncan's second time with an outright assignment gives him the ability to become a free agent, which he will do so. The son of Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, Shelley just never could break into the Yankees bench despite flashing solid power. He'll hook on elsewhere and hope to be the next Garrett Jones.

Johnny Damon was scratched from Monday's lineup due to concerns about the weather and playing field conditions.
Melky Cabrera shifted to left field and Shelley Duncan filled in out in right. Damon has had back problems recently and the Yankees don't want to risk anything. He's batting .253/.356/.307 in the month of September.

Yankees optioned 1B-OF Shelley Duncan to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
After slugging 25 homers in Triple-A, all Duncan gets is a one-day stay. Tough crowd. He was sent down to make space on the roster for Jerry Hairston Jr., who was acquired from the Reds on Friday. Look for him to return in September.
