 Ryan Garko-1B- MarinersFeb. 1 - 4:53 pm et
Mariners signed first baseman Ryan Garko to a one-year, $550,000 contract.
If Garko totals 600 plate appearances, incentives would just about double his salary. That's doubtful to happen, as he will likely form the right-handed part of a first base tandem with Casey Kotchman. Garko's .887 career OPS against lefties suggests that he will be highly successful in that role. Garko, 29, batted .268/.344/.421 with 13 homers and 51 RBI in 354 at-bats with the Indians and Giants last season.

 Ryan Garko-1B - Mariners Feb. 1 - 12:57 pm et

The Mariners have signed free agent first baseman Ryan Garko to a one-year, $550,000 contract, according to the Associated Press.
Okay, Jack Z is just showing off at this point. Garko -- and his 887 career OPS against lefties -- figures to be the right-handed part of a first base tandem with Casey Kotchman. Garko, who turned 29 earlier this month, batted .268/.344/.421 with 13 homers and 51 RBI in 354 at-bats with the Indians and Giants last season. He was non-tendered by the Giants in December.

 Ryan Garko-1B - Mariners Jan. 28 - 4:00 pm et

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Rangers have interest in free agents Ryan Garko and Rocco Baldelli.
General manager Jon Daniels would like to add a right-handed bat to Ron Washington's lineup. If they decide on Garko, he'll only play a part-time role in a short-term commitment with the club, as Chris Davis is expected to be the everyday first baseman and top prospect Justin Smoak is rising rapidly through Texas' minor league system. Considering Garko's splits, that's probably for the best.

Giants non-tendered first baseman Ryan Garko.
He's the team's only non-tender. The Giants picked up Garko to be their regular first baseman, only to quickly realize that he was best suited for playing against left-handers. He'll be in demand since practically every other first baseman in free agency is a left-handed hitter.
 Nick Johnson-1B - Yankees Dec. 4 - 11:20 am et

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, free agent Nick Johnson is drawing interest from the "Giants, maybe Braves and a half dozen more."
Johnson, 31, had the highest 2009 on-base percentage of any hitter on the free agent market this winter and an overall batting line of .291/.426/.405. He's also a plus defender at first base. San Francisco would like to upgrade over Ryan Garko, who hit .235/.307/.330 after joining the club in late July, and the Braves are expected to let Adam LaRoche walk via free agency.

Ryan Garko hasn't started since September 6 and has been given just two at-bats in the Giants' last nine games.
Garko is batting just .232/.291/.347 in 95 at-bats since joining the Giants. Manager Bruce Bochy has slid Pablo Sandoval over to first base to ensure that hot-hitting Juan Uribe remains in the lineup. "Believe me, I feel for him," Bochy said Wednesday. "He's really not getting the opportunity he should... But the guys getting the lion's share of the playing time are the guys I'm running out there."
