Andrew Bailey won the American League Rookie of the Year award.
Normally, we would be opposed to a reliever winning this type of award. But this is not a typical situation. The honor is a fitting end to Bailey's unlikely journey from obscurity to one of the AL's best closers. He was 6-3 while converting 26-of-30 saves and posting a 1.84 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP and 91/25 K/BB ratio in 83 1/3 innings. Bailey edged a group that included Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus and Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello.

The Athletics announced Tuesday that their entire coaching staff will return intact for the 2010 season.
That includes bullpen coach Ron Romanick, bench coach Tye Waller, third base coach Mike Gallego, first base coach Todd Stevenson, hitting coach Jim Skaalen and pitching coach Curt Young, who is in his seventh season. Manager Bob Geren will also be back for his fourth year with the club.

Andrew Bailey aggravated his knee again Thursday night.
Bailey has dealt with a sore knee for much of the season, but has still posted wildly impressive numbers on a bad Oakland club. "It’s just something I’ve got to battle through," he said. The 25-year-old has a 1.93 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP and a 75/22 K/BB ratio in 70 innings this year. Oh, and 19 saves.

Andrew Bailey was seen walking around the A's clubhouse Sunday with his left knee heavily wrapped.
The closer had an MRI over the weekend that reportedly showed "a little rough cartilage" and swelling, but nothing serious. "The knee's not sore at all," Bailey insisted. "It's been feeling pretty good for two or three weeks now, and I'm looking forward to finishing up the season strong." The All-Star has 18 saves, a 1.99 ERA and a 75/22 K/BB ratio in 68 innings this year.
 Joey Devine-R - Athletics Aug. 16 - 12:42 am et

Joey Devine played catch Saturday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John Surgery in April.
Devine is aiming to be at full health by the start of spring training 2010. If he reaches his goal, there's a good chance he'll be battling Andrew Bailey for ninth-inning duties next season.

Andrew Bailey was charged with a blown save on Sunday but still picked up a win against the Rangers.
Bailey entered with one out and two runners on in the eighth and was charged with the blown save when he allowed back-to-back singles to score both runs. He then got out of the jam and the Athletics scored once in the top of the ninth. Bailey stayed in for the ninth and pitched a scoreless inning. Fantasy owners will like the outing, but it doesn't help Bailey much as he tries to retain closing duties. Fortunately for him the club doesn't seem to be interested in trying Brad Ziegler there again.
