Dodgers recalled RHP James McDonald from Triple-A Albuquerque.
McDonald was 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through 18 2/3 innings with the Dodgers before being sent to Albuquerque. He turned that around in the minors with a 3.26 ERA and a 40/14 K/BB ratio. Reliever Travis Schlichting was sent to Albuquerque to make room for McDonald.

James McDonald was pulled after giving up three runs and walking four in 1 2/3 innings against the Padres on Thursday.
Jeff Weaver replaced him, worked out of a jam and went on to throw four scoreless innings in relief. McDonald was expected to go to the bullpen when Hiroki Kuroda returned, but perhaps the Dodgers will just send him down now. He has an 8.16 ERA.

James McDonald was removed with a 4-0 lead after throwing 4 1/3 innings against the Rockies on Sunday.
The Dodgers weren't willing to jeopardize a potential victory just so McDonald could get a win, and he was pulled after walking two of the three batters he faced in the fifth. He had thrown 95 pitches, just 50 of them strikes. It's looking more and more like McDonald will be shifted to the pen following Hiroki Kuroda's return.

James McDonald allowed five runs in just 2 1/3 innings on Friday night as the Dodgers lost 9-4 to the Diamondbacks.
Just what the Dodgers wanted to see after Hiroki Kuroda was placed on the DL. McDonald made it through the first two innings unscathed, but he was clearly rattled after giving up the home run to Chris Young. McDonald left after 57 pitches, walking three and striking out two.

The Dodgers officially named James McDonald their fifth starter to begin the year.
The preference was to ease McDonald in as a middle reliever, but no one else stepped up to claim the fifth spot. The 24-year-old will likely be inconsistent, but he should be owned in NL-only leagues.

James McDonald surrendered three runs in 4 1/3 innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.
Mark Reynolds homered for one of the six hits McDonald gave up. McDonald still figures to be the last man on the Dodgers' rotation and we really like his upside, but one gets the feeling the team would love to add a starter before Opening Day.
