John Lannan underwent LASIK eye surgery this offseason.
He also claims to be in "the best shape of his life," which is nice if you're into pre-spring cliches. Lannan, 27, went 9-13 last season with a 3.88 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 89 strikeouts in 206 1/3 innings (33 starts). He's not an attractive fantasy option but he might be Washington's most reliable starter.

The Nationals are expected to discuss a long-term contract extension this season with right-hander John Lannan.
Lannan, who doesn't turn 26 until next September, clearly established himself as the Nationals' ace this past season, finishing with a 9-13 record, 3.88 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 89 strikeouts in 33 starts (206 1/3 innings). He should be a major part of Washington's rebuilding efforts.

John Lannan surrendered three runs -- two earned -- and four hits in seven innings Wednesday against the Mets.
A furious ninth-inning comeback meant that Lannan got a no-decision. Before that, he was in line to finish the season with three straight losses, all in quality starts. The Nationals' ace ends the year 9-13 with a 3.88 ERA. He could be even better if the team decides to bring in a defense this winter.

John Lannan allowed two unearned runs over seven innings in a 4-1 loss to the Braves on Friday night.
Thanks a lot, fellas. Lannan has turned in back-to-back outings with at least seven innings and three runs or less and has received a loss in both. All three runs scored with the aid of errors. Lannan has his ERA down to 3.93 over a career-high 199 1/3 innings this season (32 starts). Hey, at least the Nats have one pitcher they can hang their hats on in 2010.

John Lannan allowed three runs over seven innings in a 3-2 loss to the Mets on Saturday afternoon.
Lannan needed just 74 pitches to get through seven innings and deserved a far better fate. Unfortunately, Jim Riggleman's decision to start Ian Desmond in right field came back to bite him, as the inexperienced youngster botched a David Wright flyball to start the seventh -- Wright would eventually come in to score the go-ahead run on a double by Jeff Francoeur. All told, Lannan allowed just five hits while walking one and fanning three. He is 9-12 with a 4.07 ERA in 31 starts this season.

John Lannan limited the Marlins to one run in five innings to pick up a win on Sunday.
Lannan had just one quality start in his last six tries, so he could use a strong outing like this one. He likely would have come back out for the sixth, but the game was delayed by rain for two hours and 10 minutes. There was also a 53-minute delay with the Marlins down 7-2, a man on, and nobody out in the ninth, but the game was called before the Marlins could come back to the plate. In the race for the first pick in the draft, likely to be Bryce Harper, the Nationals' magic number is 15 over the Pirates.
