 Edward Mujica-R - Padres Jul. 29 - 10:26 pm et

Edward Mujica will take Josh Geer's spot in the starting rotation.
Mujica, 25, will start on Saturday in San Diego against the Brewers. He hasn't started a game since 2004 while in Class-A ball with the Indians. Mujica is 2-4 with a 3.29 ERA in 44 appearances with the Padres this year. "I had always been a starter. I've always wanted to be a starter," Mujica said. He will be limited to 45 to 65 pitches on Saturday. Geer will shift to the bullpen. He was 1-7 with a 5.96 ERA. Geer has allowed a major league-leading 27 home runs in 102 2/3 innings.

 Josh Geer-R - Padres Jul. 27 - 10:44 pm et

Josh Geer served up three home runs over four innings in a loss to the Red on Monday night.
He's now allowed 27 long balls in 102 2/3 innings this season, including 16 in 43 innings away from his spacious home park. He's shown decent command this season, but simply won't succeed unless he can find a way to keep the ball in the park. The loss drops his record to 1-7 on the year.
 Josh Geer-R - Padres Jun. 13 - 11:46 pm et

Josh Geer was hammered for seven earned runs over 5 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Angels.
Geer served up four dingers, and has now allowed 14 home runs in just 58 2/3 innings this season. He had pieced together a nice string of quality starts in May, but the results have been sub-par since. He'll lug a 6.14 ERA into his next outing against the A's.
 Jake Peavy-S - White Sox Jun. 3 - 10:35 pm et

Jake Peavy has been diagnosed with a viral upper respiratory infection.
Peavy was reportedly under the weather for two days before making it through just one inning against the Phillies on Tuesday. Friday's scheduled starter, Josh Geer, had to replace Peavy, so Chad Gaudin will go Friday with Kevin Correia following on Saturday. Either Peavy or Geer will start on Sunday depending on Peavy's health.

 Josh Geer-R - Padres May. 24 - 1:19 am et

Josh Geer held the Cubs to one earned run as the Padres picked up their eighth straight victory Saturday in a 3-1 win.
Geer looked fantastic, fanning seven Cubs batters without walking one. His only real mistake pitch was driven over the center field wall by Derrek Lee. Other than than, he was spot on. The Padres are still under .500, but are playing some gritty baseball and outperforming all expectations. We'll see if they can keep it up as they go for their third straight series sweep Sunday against the Cubs.
