Clayton Mortensen issued an apology Sunday addressing his DUI arrest.
As Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle points out, it seemed heartfelt. "First off, I want to apologize to the A's and my family," Mortensen said. "Calling my dad this morning was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm deeply embarrassed for what I've done and my poor judgment. I can honestly say it will never happen again. I'm very ashamed and embarrassed."

Clay Mortensen was arrested and detained Saturday night for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Mortensen spent the night in jail, but he was with the A's for today's game. The rookie right-hander was 2-4 with a 7.81 ERA this season.

Clayton Mortensen was roughed up for six runs over one-plus innings in a 7-0 loss to the Mariners on Wednesday night.
Mortensen allowed four runs in the first and two runs in the second before being relieved by Brad Kilby. The 24-year-old right-hander wraps his rookie season at 2-4 with a 7.81 ERA in seven games (six starts). He's skipping the AFL, but should compete for a spot in the starting rotation in 2010. He's not one of the best arms in the Athletics pipeline, though.

Clayton Mortensen allowed two runs over five innings in a 5-2 win over the Indians on Thursday night.
Mortensen wasn't quite as good as he was last Friday, but he held the Indians to just four hits while walking three and fanning four. The young sinkerballer held the Indians scoreless until giving up two runs in his final frame. He has allowed three runs over his last two starts. With Vin Mazzaro shut down, Mortensen should get a start against the Rangers next week. Just don't consider him a fantasy option.

Clayton Mortensen earned his first major-league win on Friday night, limiting the Twins to one run over six innings.
Mortensen held the Twins to just five hits while walking two and failing to strike out a batter. Blowing people away isn't really this sinkerballer's forte, and, true to form, he induced 13 groundballs is this one. Acquired from the Cardinals in the Matt Holliday trade in July, Mortensen could be bumped out of the rotation with Vin Mazzaro expected to return next week.
 Vin Mazzaro-S - Athletics Sep. 8 - 10:11 pm et

Vin Mazzaro (shoulder) is aiming to return to the A's rotation next week.
Mazzaro was scratched from his scheduled start last Friday due to shoulder tendinitis. "I got it checked out. It's just a mild case of tendinitis," he said Tuesday. "So we'll just see if this rest helps -- get back and maybe get two or three starts to end the season." The 22-year-old is 4-9 this season with a 5.32 ERA over 91 1/3 big league innings.
