Sam Fuld hit his first career big league homer by taking Diamondback starter Doug Davis deep for a solo shot on Sunday.
Fuld also added an RBI groundout and a double in the contest. The rookie did a solid job with a .299 average and 17 walks in 97 at-bats for the Cubs this season and will likely return as a bench player for the club next year.

Sam Fuld was used as a defensive replacement Friday in the loss to the Cardinals.
Fuld is still unable to hit because of a thumb injury. He might return to the starting lineup at some point next week.

The Chicago Tribune speculates that the Cubs could give Fuld more than a week to heal, and may end up shutting him down for the remainder of the season. Fuld is not worth owning in NL-only leagues.

Sam Fuld underwent an MRI on his right thumb Tuesday.
Fuld may have sprained his thumb while making a diving catch Monday night. He was wearing a splint in the clubhouse Tuesday afternoon and could be out for an extended period of time. The Cubs haven't ruled out promoting minor league outfielder Tyler Colvin or James Adduci.

Cubs placed outfielder Alfonso Soriano on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to September 4, following season-ending knee surgery.
Jake Fox, Micah Hoffpauir, Sam Fuld and Bobby Scales are expected to continue filling in for Soriano out in left field. Fox has the most fantasy potential, but it doesn't appear he'll receive enough at-bats down the stretch to warrant ownership. Soriano should be ready for the start of spring training.

Soriano is batting just .157 with zero homers and four RBI this month, so he takes a seat. Sam Fuld will start in left field and bat against Charlie Haeger.
