Charlie Morton notched his first career complete-game shutout Wednesday in the first game of the doubleheader against the Cubs.
A modest change from his previous start against the Cubs. In that one, he was charged with 10 runs in one-plus innings as part of a 17-2 loss on Aug. 14. Morton's season is over at 5-9 with a 4.55 ERA. A strong finish that saw him allowed eight runs over his final 29 innings will put him in better position when he competes for a rotation spot next spring.

Charlie Morton hurled seven innings of one-run ball in a 5-1 win over the Padres on Friday night.
A date against the Padres can really do wonders for a pitcher's stat line. Morton hadn't allowed one run or less in a start since August 8, but that's exactly what he did on Friday night. He hadn't gone seven innings in a start since July 18, but he managed to do that too. He does meet the Reds next week, but fantasy owners would be foolish to expect this kind of performance again.

Charlie Morton's next start has been pushed back at least three days.
Morton was scheduled to go on Tuesday but will now pitch one of the Houston games Sept. 11-13. The delay is unrelated to injury so you would have to think they are trying to limit his innings. Zach Duke and Kevin Hart have both moved up a day to remain on normal rest. The Pirates are currently using a six-man roster.

Charlie Morton limited the Reds to two runs over 6 2/3 innings on Friday night as part of a 5-2 win.
After getting smoked for 10 runs against the Cubs in his last outing, Morton pitched very effectively, scattering six hits while fanning three and walking three. Both runs scored on groundouts. Morton broke a four-game personal losing streak with the victory -- it was his first win since July 18. But with a 5.21 ERA, he's dangerous property in fantasy leagues.

Charlie Morton was blasted by the Cubs on Friday, surrendering 10 runs in one-plus innings to fall to 2-6.
After a four-run first, Morton retired none of the six hitters he faced to begin the second inning. He allowed a total of seven hits and three walks before being pulled. Morton's rotation spot should still be safe, but the ERA jump from 3.81 to 5.51 really hurts.
 Charlie Morton-S - Pirates Jul. 18 - 9:54 pm et

Charlie Morton delivered seven shutout innings as the Pirates defeated the Giants 2-0 on Saturday evening.
Morton struck out six San Francisco batters while walking just two. He scattered three hits, lowering his WHIP to 1.29 and his ERA to 3.21. He's had an up-and-down kind of season, but still carries a decent amount of value in deeper mixed leagues. The right-hander will carry a 2-2 record into next week's matchup against the Diamondbacks.
