 Jon Van Every-OF - Pirates Jul. 8 - 7:34 pm et

Red Sox designated outfielder Jonathan Van Every for assignment.
The Sox needed to clear space on the 40-man roster for Jed Lowrie. Van Every is expected to miss the rest of the 2009 season following knee surgery, so he was an easy guy to let go. The Red Sox will hope he clears waivers and resumes his role back at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Triple-A Pawtucket's Jonathan Van Every is expected to miss the rest of the season following knee surgery.
Van Every spent a couple of weeks in the majors earlier this season and might have been brought back in the event of an injury to Mark Kotsay or Rocco Baldelli. The Red Sox may need to go out and find some Triple-A outfield depth now, given how fragile their veteran backups are.

 Jon Van Every-OF - Pirates May. 7 - 6:35 pm et

Red Sox optioned Jonathan Van Every to Triple-A Pawtucket.
This move was made to open up a roster spot for returning outfielder Rocco Baldelli and not due to Van Every's play. He had a .364 batting average with one home run and three RBI through 11 at-bats. He will surely be recalled if an injury befalls another outfielder.
 Jacoby Ellsbury-OF - Red Sox May. 6 - 4:13 pm et

Jacoby Ellsbury (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.
Indications are that Ellsbury's injury isn't serious, so his absence Wednesday simply appears to be a precaution. Jonathan Van Every is getting the start in center, with J.D. Drew taking over Ellsbury's spot atop the order.

 Jacoby Ellsbury-OF - Red Sox May. 6 - 9:39 am et

Jacoby Ellsbury told reporters after Tuesday's game that his hamstring injury is "nothing serious."
Good news. Ellsbury is on a base stealing tear and actually suffered the injury while nabbing second on Tuesday night. He might get a day of rest Wednesday, but expect him back before the weekend. Jonathan Van Every is likely to fill in.
