Indians catching prospect Carlos Santana (hand) is expected to begin the 2010 season at Triple-A Columbus, assuming he's healthy.
The Tribe will start Lou Marson at catcher and use Wyatt Toregas as his backup. Santana was impressive last season, batting .290/.413/.530 with 23 homers and 97 RBI for Double-A Akron, but he underwent surgery on his right hand in December and the Indians feel he still needs some grooming. "From a pure logic standpoint, the guy has not caught a game above Double-A," GM Mark Shapiro said Friday. "There's not a reason to push him."

 Lou Marson-C - Indians Sep. 25 - 10:07 pm et

Lou Marson drove in two runs in a win over the Orioles on Friday night.
Marson clubbed an RBI double in the fifth and drove in a second run with a bases-loaded walk in the eighth. He is batting .207 with two RBI in 26 at-bats since being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Sept. 7. With the Indians unlikely to tender Kelly Shoppach, Marson has a pretty good chance to open 2010 as the team's starting catcher. He might hold the job that long, as prospect Carlos Santana isn't that far away from making an impact.

Indians recalled catcher Lou Marson from Triple-A Columbus.
Marson was in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Texas. He will catch fellow Cliff Lee trade alumnus Carlos Carrasco. Marson hit .277 with a .361 on-base percentage, 18 doubles, two homers and 33 RBIs in 91 games spread over two Triple-A teams. He was 4-for-17 with the Phillies in a brief major league stop earlier this season. Marson will get at-bats in the season's waning weeks and is worth a look in AL-only leagues.
 Lou Marson-C - Indians Jul. 29 - 8:38 pm et

Indians acquired catcher Lou Marson from the Phillies in a six-player trade.
Marson could become a factor in Cleveland soon, especially if the Indians deal Victor Martinez. The 23-year-old was hitting .294 with one home run and 24 RBI for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He's a quality defensive catcher with the on-base skills to carve out a nice career as a starter. However, the Indians have an even better catching prospect, Carlos Santana, set to be ready sometime in 2010.
 Lou Marson-C - Indians Jun. 14 - 9:46 am et

Lou Marson was placed on the Triple-A Lehigh Valley disabled list Saturday with a bruised right foot.
Marson isn't expected to miss more than two weeks. He spent a short time in the majors this season, racking up four hits in 17 at-bats in May while filling in for the injured Carlos Ruiz. The Phillies may look to him again down the road.
 Lou Marson-C - Indians May. 2 - 4:06 pm et

Phillies optioned catcher Lou Marson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
With Carlos Ruiz ready to go, Marson will get steady playing time at Lehigh. Marson had four hits, including a double, in 17 at-bats during Ruiz's absence.
