 Jason Motte-R- CardinalsMay. 27 - 4:22 pm et
Jason Motte picked up his 10th hold with a scoreless inning Wednesday against the Brewers.
Ryan Franklin doesn't seem likely to give up the job anytime soon, but it's looking like Motte would have done just fine as a closer after his early stumble. Since Opening Day, he's allowed three runs in 18 innings.

 Jason Motte-R - Cardinals Apr. 11 - 7:26 pm et

Jason Motte fanned two Houston batters in a scoreless inning of work Saturday.
Motte's appearance came in the sixth inning, but he looked strong and lowered his season ERA to 15.43. A few more outings like that and maybe manager Tony La Russa will again trust him with ninth-inning duties. For now, fantasy owners will simply have to deal with a committee of closers in St. Louis.

According to manager Tony LaRussa, Jason Motte will work outside of ninth inning for the next couple of days.
Motte has been very shaky in two appearances, including getting pulled from a save attempt on Friday night. "One of the things we need to do is to get Jason some work," LaRussa said. "So I wouldn't be surprised if, whether it's today or tomorrow, he pitches sometimes other than the ninth. (We're) not going to hold him back when he needs work."

Brought in to close out a two-run lead against the Astros, Jason Motte was pulled after giving up singles to two of the three hitters he faced,
What was the point of using him in the first place then? Manager Tony La Russa didn't even pull him for matchup purposes, as it was another right-hander, Kyle McClellan, who was brought in to face Kaz Matsui. If this is how much faith La Russa has in Motte, then we might just see the right-hander return to Triple-A sometime in the near future.

Jason Motte has been deemed unavailable for Tuesday's game after throwing nearly 30 pitches on Monday.
Ryan Franklin didn't pitch at all on Monday and is the best bet to get the call in a closing situation.

After a lights out spring, Jason Motte blew his first save chance for the Cardinals on Monday, giving up four runs in the ninth and taking the loss to the Pirates.
Ouch. Motte was dominant this spring, giving up nine hits, walking one and striking out 18 in 12 1/3 innings. The Pirates, though, came up with four hits off him today, three of them doubles. Motte also hit a batter before finishing the ninth. We'll have to wait and see whether he gets the next save chance after such a disastrous outing. We're guessing that he will, but he won't be able to afford to blow another one within the next couple of weeks.
