Brad Bergesen (shin) has been throwing pain-free off flat ground for weeks and hopes to have at least 10 extended mound sessions before Spring Training begins.
The 24-year-old right-hander was 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 19 starts before his rookie season came to an end after getting hit in the left shin by a line drive in July. "It took forever just to get that thing back to 100 percent," said Bergesen. "...It finally feels good not to have to worry about it in the back of your mind. I have been full-bore for a long time. It's to the point where it's back to where it was before it ever happened." Bergesen thinks that he may have suffered a hairline fracture in the leg that went undetected by CT scans and magnetic resonance imagings, but he's had no recent setbacks with his rehab. He expects to "re-earn a job" in the starting rotation this spring.

Brad Bergesen (shin) began a running program last week and expects to be ready for spring training.
"Absolutely," Bergesen said. "Here we are, late November, and I'm running with no problems for five minutes at a pretty decent pace, so I don't think I'll have any problem getting to 20 minutes by the end of December or early January." The 24-year-old's rookie campaign came to an end after he was hit in the left shin by a line drive in July. Bergesen thinks that he may have suffered a hairline fracture in the leg at the time, but he hasn't had any setbacks with his recent cardio program.

Brad Bergesen (shin) began a running program this week, reports Roch Kubato of MASNSports.com.
"It's going great," Bergesen told Kubato. The 24-year-old right-hander ran twice this week to kick off an offseason conditioning program. Bergesen's season came to an end on July 31 after he was hit in the left shin by a Billy Butler line drive. He's had a few bumps in the road with his rehab, but looks to be back on track for spring training.

Brad Bergesen, who suffered a deep shin bruise at the end of July, will begin a running program this week.
His rehab has had a few starts and stops, but it appears he is finally ready to go. Bergesen's season came to an end on July 31 after he was hit in the left shin by a Billy Butler line drive. The 24-year-old right hander was in the thick of the Rookie of the Year discussion at the time, finishing at 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 19 starts. Bergesen has told manager Dave Trembley that he will be 100 percent for spring training.

Brad Bergesen, who suffered a deep shin bruise at the end of July, is hoping to begin a running program in the next two weeks.
Bergesen will begin by walking on a treadmill, then he'll progress to running freely and doing sprints. "I've got to believe that by mid-November, I would think that I'm running pain-free and able to do everything with no restrictions," he said. "That's just my own personal guess." The 24-year-old right-hander went 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA before his season was cut short.

Brad Bergesen, who suffered a deep shin bruise at the end of July, is still unable to run on his left leg.
Bergesen feels he may have been misdiagnosed and is likely to seek a second opinion shortly. "Deep down in my heart, I really think I had some type of hairline fracture that didn't show up," he said. "That's just my own personal opinion." His goal is to be fully healthy by the start of spring training.
