Giants hired Hensley Meulens as hitting coach.
The Giants cut ties with Carney Lansford a few weeks ago after posting the second-fewest homers (112) and drawing the fewest walks in the majors (392) during the '09 season. Meulens, a 42-year-old former MLB utilityman, had been serving as a hitting instructor on the Triple-A level.

The Giants fired hitting coach Carney Lansford.
This is not a surprise, as the Giants struggled offensively this season for the second straight year. It is expected that the rest of the coaching staff will remain intact. Hensley Meulens, the Giants' Triple-A hitting coach, is one replacement candidate, as could be former Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo.

Pablo Sandoval broke a 3-3 tie by hitting his 25th homer in the top of the 10th as the Giants edged the Padres 4-3 on Sunday.
A fitting end to the Giants' season. A close, low-scoring game with the win provided by their only above average major league hitter. Sandoval ends the year at .330/.387/.556. He edged Albert Pujols for second in the NL in batting behind Hanley Ramirez and ended up seventh in OPS.

Pablo Sandoval clubbed a solo homer in a win over the Padres on Friday night.
Sandoval's fourth-inning solo blast tied the game, while Juan Uribe's home run pushed the Giants ahead in the seventh. Even though the Giants are out of it, Sandoval continues to mash, batting .329/.385/.552 with 24 homers and 89 RBI. His 937 OPS ranks seventh in the league. Imagine what it would be if he didn't swing at everything?

Pablo Sandoval was 3-for-5 with three RBI in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.
Sandoval had an RBI single in the third inning and then a two-run triple in the ninth to make things interesting, but the Giants' rally fell two runs short. Sandoval is batting .326/.379/.545 with 22 homers and 83 RBI in 534 at-bats this season. He currently ranks third in the league in batting.

Pablo Sandoval intends to drop weight this offseason.
He'll spend three weeks on vacation once the Giants' season ends, and then it's time to go to work. Sandoval will participate in a three-week fitness and nutritional training at the club's spring training complex with the goal of gaining better stamina. "I do want to get better," he said. "I don't want to play 120 games. I want to play 162 games."
