Tommy Hunter is working out five days a week with conditioning coach Jose Vazquez in hopes of being leaner next season.
The 23-year-old Hunter is currently listed at 255 pounds and would like to improve on the 9-6 record and 4.10 ERA he posted during his first full season in the majors. "You have to go there with the mentality that you have to win your job," said Hunter. If they see fit for me to be in the starting rotation, I'll take it and run with it."

 Tommy Hunter-S - Rangers Oct. 3 - 11:54 pm et

Tommy Hunter yielded two earned runs over 4 1/3 innings Saturday evening in a loss to the Mariners.
For a guy who struggled mightily in the month of September, it wasn't an awful showing. Hunter clearly dealt with some serious fatigue issues near the end of this season, but still finishes with a respectable 9-6 record, 4.10 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. The 23-year-old should only improve in 2010.
 Tommy Hunter-S - Rangers Sep. 29 - 1:02 am et

Tommy Hunter surrendered seven runs -- six earned -- over 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Angels on Monday night.
Hunter has watched his ERA climb from 2.95 to 4.10 during the month of September. Given that the 23-year-old has thrown nearly 180 innings this year, it could be that his arm is just tired.
 Tommy Hunter-S - Rangers Sep. 24 - 1:36 am et

Tommy Hunter served up seven runs over 5 2/3 innings in a wild 9-8 win over the Athletics on Wednesday night.
All this and he still gets a win. Hunter yielded nine hits, including five runs on six hits in the fourth. Luckily his teammates bailed him out with four runs in the top of the fifth. Despite notching his ninth win, Hunter's ERA rose from 3.25 to 3.67 in the outing. He'll get the first-place Angels next, but the start probably won't carry much meaning by then.
 Tommy Hunter-S - Rangers Sep. 18 - 11:27 pm et

Tommy Hunter yielded two runs over five innings in a 2-0 loss to the first-place Angels on Friday night.
Hunter allowed just two runs, but since he gave up five hits and a career-high four walks, his pitch count swelled to 97 by the end of the fifth inning. The loss was his first since August 28, perfect timing as the Rangers continue to fade in the playoff race. They now trail by 7 1/2 games in the division and seven in the Wild Card.
 Tommy Hunter-S - Rangers Sep. 13 - 9:26 pm et

Tommy Hunter went the distance and allowed just two runs -- one earned -- in a win over the Mariners in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
Hunter threw 102 pitches in his first career complete game. Like Scott Feldman, he's been awfully good for the Rangers in spite of a subpar strikeout rae. He fanned three today, giving him 53 K's in 94 2/3 innings for the season.
