The Astros and RHP Matt Lindstrom avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.625 million contract.
Lindstrom, who turns 30 in February, was acquired from the Marlins last month. He battled elbow problems for most of the 2009 season, posting a 5.89 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 39/24 K/BB ratio in 47 1/3 innings for the Marlins last season, ultimately losing his ninth-inning gig to Leo Nunez. He's not the favorite for saves in Houston to open the season, but he'll be one of the first in line if the newly-signed Brandon Lyon struggles.

 Matt Lindstrom-R - Astros Dec. 9 - 6:52 pm et

Astros acquired RHP Matt Lindstrom from the Marlins for RHP Robert Bono, SS Luis Bryan and a player to be named later.
The Marlins had high hopes for Lindstrom this past year, but he missed nearly six weeks due to elbow inflammation and wound up with a lousy 5.89 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 39/24 K/BB ratio in 47 1/3 innings. He'll get a fresh start in Houston, where save opportunities may be in the cards.

According to Peter Gammons of ESPN.com, the Astros have acquired right-hander Matt Lindstrom from the Marlins.
Lindstrom will fly to Houston for a physical to make it official. Lindstrom, 29, managed a 5.89 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 39/24 K/BB ratio in 47 1/3 innings in '09, but missed nearly six weeks with elbow inflammation. While he wasn't going to close in Florida, it's no stretch to say he could take over ninth-inning duties with the Astros.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com confirms that the Marlins are close to dealing reliever Matt Lindstrom to the Astros.
The two sides are "swapping medicals," according to Rosenthal. The Astros were forced to make a move for a reliever Wednesday when they lost out on LaTroy Hawkins, who signed a two-year deal with the Brewers. Lindstrom, 29, posted a 5.89 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 39/24 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings this past season while battling an elbow issue.

Joe Frisaro of MLB.com hears that the Marlins are expected to make a trade on Wednesday.
It's unclear who will be dealt, but Frisaro notes the most-talked about arbitration-eligible players in Dan Uggla, Matt Lindstrom and Renyel Pinto. Uggla has been linked to the Giants for months, while the Astros have emerged as a possible landing spot for Lindstrom. Pinto, who posted a 3.23 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 58/45 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings in '09, should garner interest from a number of teams.

Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports that the Marlins are close to sending reliever Matt Lindstrom to the Astros.
Lindstrom, 29, is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, so the Marlins would like to shed his potential $1.5 million salary for 2010. They are expected to receive prospects in return. Lindstrom dealt with some elbow issues in 2009, posting a 5.89 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 39/24 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings.
