| Matt Lindstrom's 2010 Profile | | A cheap, late-game option at closer to start the year, Lindstrom displayed the same 96 mph fastball that made him a prospect while working the ninth for the Marlins. His strikeout rate actually increased off of his previous performance, but his fluky low one home run allowed in 2008 didn’t translate, and his ERA spiked to 5.89. Lindstrom’s 2.85 FIP and 3.09 ERA from 2007 are still in there somewhere, but two straight disappointing years hint that the truth is somewhere in between his lucky 2008 campaign and unlucky 2009 season. Traded to the Astros over the winter, Lindstrom will serve as a setup man for closer Brandon Lyon. No sure thing himself, Lyon’s presence may only be a temporary setback for Lindstrom. He’ll also have to compete with Samuel Gervacio for closing duties if Lyon falters, but a normal, favorable regression for Lindstrom will have him the favorite to take over should things go wrong.
