Marlins acquired LHP Hunter Jones and LHP Jose Alvarez from the Red Sox for outfielder Jeremy Hermida.
Jones, 25, gave up 13 runs in 12 1/2 innings for Boston this season. He might be useful as one of the final relievers in the Florida bullpen, but he has little in the way of upside. Alvarez, 20, was demoted from the Sally League in 2008 to the short-season New York-Penn League last season, but he responded with a 1.52 ERA in 12 starts and two relief appearances. He probably doesn't have a future as a starter, but he's not without promise. |
