Marlins acquired LHP Hunter Jones and LHP Jose Alvarez from the Red Sox for outfielder Jeremy Hermida.
Jones, 25, gave up 13 runs in 12 1/2 innings for Boston this season. He might be useful as one of the final relievers in the Florida bullpen, but he has little in the way of upside. Alvarez, 20, was demoted from the Sally League in 2008 to the short-season New York-Penn League last season, but he responded with a 1.52 ERA in 12 starts and two relief appearances. He probably doesn't have a future as a starter, but he's not without promise.

Jones has allowed 10 hits and eight earned runs in nine innings for the big league club this season. He will provide bullpen depth and should not be a consideration in fantasy leagues.

The move clears space on the roster for Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is set to be activated from the disabled list before Friday's game against the Mets. Jones allowed eight earned runs over nine innings in his short time with Boston.
