The Dodgers and LHP Hong-Chih Kuo avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $950,000 contract.
The Dodgers scored a nice deal here. Kuo, who's only 28, had a 3.00 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP and a 32/13 K/BB ratio last season while collecting 14 holds. He held left-handed hitters to a .152/.275/.242 batting line in 33 meetings and will serve a similar lefty specialist role in 2010.

Dodgers activated LHP Hong-Chih Kuo from the 60-day disabled list.
Kuo was placed on the disabled list about three months ago with an assortment of left elbow ailments. He looked solid during an extended minor league rehab assignment and will slide into a middle relief role.

Hong-Chih Kuo threw a scoreless inning Tuesday at Single-A Inland Empire.
Kuo (elbow) began his rehab assignment before the All-Star break and is inching closer and closer to a return. "If he throws well, he'll get two days off and pitch again Friday, then we'll see," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said Tuesday. "He'll probably go on the next trip."

Kuo is currently on the 60-day disabled list. He has been on the DL since May 2. A timetable for his return has not yet been made public.

Dodgers transferred LHP Hong-Chih Kuo from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move was made in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Manny Ramirez's return from suspension. Kuo remains out indefinitely with an elbow injury.

Hong-Chih Kuo (elbow) says he'll retire before undergoing another surgical procedure on his elbow.
The injured reliever is able to play catch, but is still out indefinitely as he remains uncertain when he'll be able to resume throwing off a mound. "It's a little tender," he said. "It just needs time to get stronger."
