Francisco Liriano allowed just one hit and struck out 10 over five innings Thursday in the final game of the Dominican Winter League championship.
Liriano looked incredibly sharp, hitting 95 MPH consistently with his fastball and displaying a tight break on his slider. The 26-year-old lefty had a lousy 2009 campaign, but the Twins have to be pleased with the way he looked tonight. Liriano should have no trouble climbing back into the club's starting rotation with a strong spring and is quickly turning into a legitimate fantasy sleeper. We all now what kind of dominance he's capable of.

The Twins and LHP Francisco Liriano avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.6 million contract.
Liriano had an ugly 2009, going 5-13 with a 5.80 ERA, but there is optimism for a bounceback year based on track record and an impressive showing in winter ball. A healthy Liriano would fit beautifully behind Nick Blackburn, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey and Carl Pavano in the Twins' starting rotation. If Liriano secures a rotation spot, he could be a high-upside fantasy sleeper.

Francisco Liriano has been impressive so far in winter ball.
"I just got a report that he's throwing the living fire out of the ball down in the Dominican (Republic)," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "He threw eight innings the other day, and his fastball was 92 to 94 (mph) and his slider was filthy. That's a really good thing, because he can be the bonus if we can get him on track." A healthy Liriano would fit beautifully behind Nick Blackburn, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey and Carl Pavano in the Twins' starting rotation.

Francisco Liriano couldn't make it out of the second inning against the Royals on Sunday, giving up three runs while recording just five outs.
Liriano walked three and gave up three hits, and it could have been worse if reliever Jeff Manship didn't retire Billy Butler with runners on the corners and two outs. Luckily for the Twins the Tigers also lost today, so the lead remains at two games. The Twins will have an interesting choice to make on Friday against the Royals again if they're still in the race, as both Liriano and Manship have struggled and the club lacks other quality options.

Francisco Liriano will likely start against the Royals on Sunday, according to manager Ron Gardenhire.
"Frankie is probably the most likely choice," Gardenhire said. Liriano will replace struggling rookie Jeff Manship in the rotation. Liriano has allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings over three relief appearances since getting yanked from the rotation in mid-August. With a 5.75 ERA and 1.53 WHIP on the season, the lefty remains too inconsistent to trust in mixed leagues. AL-only players in daily lineup leagues could roll the dice, however.

According to La Velle E. Neal of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Francisco Liriano has a chance to start against the Royals on Sunday.
Liriano gave up two hits, two walks and an earned run with one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings on Tuesday, but more important than those numbers is that manager Ron Gardenhire commented that "Joe Mauer said it was the best the ball has come out of his hand in a long time." Nothing is set in stone regarding Liriano's return to the rotation, and with a 5.75 ERA and 1.53 WHIP, the lefty remains too inconsistent to trust in mixed leagues.
