Royals agreed to terms with RHP Kyle Davies on a one-year, $1.8 million contract.
There would have been some justification for cutting Davies, but he'll return as the Royals' fourth or fifth starter. He went 8-9 with a 5.27 ERA in 22 starts last season.

 Kyle Davies-S - Royals Sep. 23 - 7:51 pm et

Kyle Davies (oblique) is likely done for the rest of the season, reports MLB.com's Dick Kaegel.
Could he return? "I'm hoping that he will, but I don't know that's going to happen," Royals manager Trey Hillman said. "He's still experiencing some soreness, and we're being more precautionary than aggressive in that situation." Davies was scratched from his Saturday start due to a slight strain in his oblique. If the injury ends his season, Davies finishes 8-9 with a 5.27 ERA in 22 starts.

Kyle Davies has been scratched from his Saturday start due to a slight strain in his oblique.
He'll be replaced by rookie left-hander Dusty Hughes. Despite control issues, Davies had been throwing decently well for the Royals as of late, allowing only one hit in his last start while walking five in six scoreless innings. The Royals have to hope the oblique strain doesn't linger, which is unfortunately quite often the case.

Kyle Davies tossed six scoreless innings to beat the Indians on Sunday.
Davies lasted just six innings because he walked six batters and needed 108 pitches to record 18 outs despite allowing just one hit. In fact, he threw almost as many balls (53) as strikes (55). Davies walked six yet allowed just one run and picked up a win in his last start too, but it's not a sustainable model for success. Despite four straight outings with strong results, we wouldn't recommend using Davies.

Kyle Davies hurled six innings of one-run ball in a 4-3 win over the Athletics on Tuesday night.
Davies held Oakland to just four hits while fanning six and walking a pair. He blanked the Athletics after giving up a solo homer to Rajai Davis in the first inning. Davies has allowed three runs over his last two starts, spanning 12 innings. He's still far too inconsistent to be trusted in fantasy leagues, even against the worst of offenses.
 Kyle Davies-S - Royals Aug. 28 - 1:07 am et

Kyle Davies tossed six innings of two-run ball as the Royals topped the Mariners 8-4 on Thursday night.
Davies has proven capable of delivering quality outings such as this one, particularly against lesser offenses, but he's been far too inconsistent to be worth trusting. Even after tonight's win, he holds a 5-9 record and 5.94 ERA.
