The Red Sox and RHP Manny Delcarmen avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $905,000 contract.
He could earn $15,000 more should he reach 65 appearances. Delcarmen, who turns 28 next month, posted a 4.53 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 64 games with the Red Sox last season.

Manny Delcarmen will not be on Boston's ALDS roster, according to manager Terry Francona.
In addition to being involved in a car accident on Saturday, Delcarmen probably made the Red Sox's decision easier by posting an 8.59 ERA after July 28. Paul Byrd will be on the roster and pitch out of the bullpen during the ALDS.

Manny Delcarmen, who was involved in a car accident on Saturday, threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
Pitching coach John Farrell said that "there were no lingering affects from the car accident." The Red Sox are expected to make a decision on Delcarmen's status Thursday afternoon.

Manny Delcarmen was involved in a car accident Saturday afternoon and was unavailable for Saturday night's game.
Luckily, he drives a Hummer. Trainers treated Delcarmen for back and neck soreness, but it sounds like he should be fine once the playoffs begin.

Peter Gammons told ESPN's Mike & Mike In The Morning on Thursday that the Nationals have discussed swapping Nick Johnson for Boston's Manny Delcarmen.
The Red Sox will probably give David Ortiz a little more time to get his swing figured out before pulling the trigger. If he can't get it turned around, Johnson would make a nice fit. He's batting .338/.435/.473 this season with four home runs and 25 RBI in 148 at-bats. Delcarmen has been lights out, with a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings, but the Red Sox have enough pitching depth in their system to cope with the loss.
