Mike Pelfrey has dropped 25 pounds this winter.
Pelfrey is obviously hoping his new-found fitness will help his performance on the mound. "I was pretty upset with not only how the team played, but with how I played last year, knowing that’s not me," the right-hander told The New York Post on Monday. "I had a lost year. I had a terrible year." Pelfrey, 26, went 10-12 with a 5.03 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 2009.

Mets exercised RHP Mike Pelfrey's $500,000 option for 2010.
Pelfrey finished 10-12 this season with a 5.03 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. Those aren't great numbers, but he's only 25 and the price is unbeatable. He faces three years of arbitration after the 2010 season.

Mike Pelfrey yielded three runs over seven innings against the Nationals on Tuesday night, but took a no-decision in an eventual 4-3 loss.
Pelfrey held the Nationals scoreless over the first four innings, but coughed up a three-run lead in the fifth. He allowed eight hits -- including a home run -- while striking out two and walking one. Pelfrey is 10-12 with a 5.03 ERA over 31 starts this season. Though he's gotten a bit unlucky this season, it's hard to call this season anything less than a step back.
 Mike Pelfrey-S - Mets Sep. 12 - 7:30 pm et

Mike Pelfrey was hammered for eight runs over six innings Saturday but escaped with a no-decision in a comeback victory over the Phillies.
The Phillies hammered Pelfrey early and often as his struggles continued on the road. He's now 10-10 with a 5.09 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, and probably shouldn't be used away from Citi Field here on out.
 Mike Pelfrey-S - Mets Sep. 6 - 4:14 pm et

Mike Pelfrey evened his record at 10-10 after allowing one run in eight innings Sunday against the Cubs.
The Mets won 4-2 in what was Pelfrey's second victory in seven starts. This was another strong outing at home for the 2005 first-round pick. He's gone 6-3 with a 3.56 ERA at Citi Field and 4-7 with a 6.55 ERA elsewhere.
 Mike Pelfrey-S - Mets Aug. 22 - 12:17 am et

Mike Pelfrey outpitched Cole Hamels on Friday night, giving up two runs over six innings in a 4-2 win over the Phillies.
Consecutive solid starts for Pelfrey. He scattered six hits while striking out five and walking two, improving to 9-8 on the year. He certainly earned it, navigating his way through a pretty tough jam in the sixth. That said, he isn't a recommended option against the hot-hitting Marlins next week.
