 Jeremy Hermida-OF- Red SoxJan. 26 - 4:58 pm et
The Red Sox and outfielder Jeremy Hermida avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3,345,000 contract.
It's just a hair below the midpoint of the $3.85 million he requested and the $2.95 million offered by the Red Sox when arbitration figures were exchanged last week. Hermida, 25, was acquired from the Marlins for a pair of minor league prospects in November. He batted just .259/.348/.392 with 13 homers and 47 RBI in 429 at-bats with the Marlins last season, but posted an 870 OPS as a 23-year-old in 2007.

 Jeremy Hermida-OF - Red Sox Jan. 22 - 9:31 am et

The Red Sox are optimistic that an arbitration hearing will be avoided with outfielder Jeremy Hermida, according to the Boston Herald.
Hermida filed for a $3.85 million salary and the Red Sox countered with $2.95 million when arbitration figures were exchanged earlier this week. The two sides are continuing to talk and should be able to find a middle ground before an arbitration hearing is required. Boston acquired the 25-year-old Hermida this November from the Marlins for two minor leaguers.

Jeremy Hermida requested $3.85 million and was offered $2.95 million from the Red Sox when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
The Red Sox snagged Hermida this winter from the Marlins for two minor league pitchers. The 25-year-old was drafted in the first round back in 2002 and still has some potential, but he needs to show something soon. Boston will use him as a backup outfielder and pinch-hitter this year.

 Rocco Baldelli-OF - Red Sox Nov. 8 - 8:27 am et

Rocco Baldelli said he has not heard from the Red Sox on whether or not the team is interested in bringing him back for a second season.
The Red Sox recently acquired Jeremy Hermida who tentatively should have a lock on the fourth outfielder job. The club could still use the Rhode Island native as a fifth outfielder who can crank it against left-handers, but there wouldn't be as much playing time available. Baldelli hit .253 with seven home runs in 150 at-bats on the year while drawing a $500,000 base salary.

 Jeremy Hermida-OF - Red Sox Nov. 5 - 6:06 pm et

Red Sox acquired outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins for LHP Hunter Jones and LHP Jose Alvarez.
Hermida, the 11th overall pick in the 2002 draft, frustrated with the Marlins with injuries and unexceptional play in four years as a major leaguer and there was no way the team was going to pay him $3 million or so in his second year of arbitration. Still, it's a shame that they couldn't do better than a pair of generic left-handers. Hermida still has a lot of promise. He hit .296/.369/.501 in 123 games in 2007, and he's just going to be 26 next year. The Red Sox may not be content with him as a regular in the event that Jason Bay leaves, but they couldn't pass on the chance to acquire him at this price.
 Jeremy Hermida-OF - Red Sox Nov. 5 - 5:43 pm et

The Red Sox have reportedly acquired Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins for left-handers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez.
That's how far Hermida's stock had fallen with the Marlins. We still think it's ridiculous they didn't wait a few more weeks and see if something better came along. Hermida disappointed to the tune of a .259/.348/.392 line last season, but he's still just 25 and he hasn't lost the skills that made him one of baseball's best prospects a few years ago. It's tough to tell what the Red Sox will do with him, but they saw a chance to pick up a nice asset at a small price and pounced.
