The Dodgers and 1B James Loney avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.1 million contract.
The Dodgers approached Loney about a multi-year contract this winter but he's confident in his ability to earn more money going season-to-season. Loney, who turns 26 this season, batted .281/.357/.399 with 13 home runs and 90 RBI in 576 at-bats last season.

 James Loney-1B - Dodgers Jan. 15 - 9:13 pm et

The Dodgers have approached first baseman James Loney about a multi-year contract, but his agent Joe Urbon said he is currently seeking a one-year deal.
The Dodgers would love to keep their young first baseman at a reasonable rate, but having not reached his true potential like Matt Kemp, Loney could stand to make even more next winter with some improvement. He batted .281/.357/.399 with 13 homers and 90 RBI in 576 at-bats last season.

 James Loney-1B - Dodgers Oct. 16 - 12:16 am et

James Loney went 3-for-4 with a homer off Cole Hamels in Thursday's loss to the Phillies.
Loney's homer was just his second in Dodger Stadium all year. Including the NLDS, he had gone 13 straight games without driving in a run.
 Andre Ethier-OF - Dodgers Sep. 26 - 1:39 pm et

According to the Los Angeles Times, the players who are eligible for salary arbitration in the off-season could cost the Dodgers around $20 million.
The Dodgers will have to give sizable raises to Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, Chad Billingsley, James Loney, Jonathan Broxton, Russell Martin, George Sherrill and Hong Chih-Kuo. Kemp, Billingsley, Loney and Kou will be eligible for the first time. The Times story cites agents who say that Ethier could expect to make around $7 million while Kemp could make $4 million.

 James Loney-1B - Dodgers Sep. 13 - 12:26 am et

James Loney went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI Saturday as the Dodgers routed the Giants 9-1.
Loney also scored two runs. His power numbers have disappointed most fantasy owners this season, but he's hitting .283 with a .356 on-base percentage and has 85 RBI. Hopefully he'll heat up down the stretch and relieve some of the pain inflicted by his low 12 home-run total.
 Jim Thome-DH - Twins Sep. 1 - 9:43 am et

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti assured reporters late Monday night that Jim Thome will not draw starts at first base.
"We're not bringing him over here to play first base," Colletti said. "We're bringing him over here to come off the bench and be a great influence in the clubhouse." It's the right call. James Loney, a fantastic defensive first baseman, is batting .274/.350/.387 this season with 74 RBI.
