The Diamondbacks and SS Stephen Drew avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.4 million contract.
This was Drew's first chance at arbitration. Bothered by a hamstring injury early last season, the soon-to-be 27-year-old never got on track, finishing with a .261/.320/.428 batting line to go along with 12 homers and 65 RBI. He struggled away from home last season, but there's still plenty of reason to suggest he'll bounce back to his 2008 performance.

 Stephen Drew-SS - Diamondbacks Sep. 26 - 3:39 pm et

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, in an effort to upgrade their pitching, the Diamondbacks will listen to offers for Stephen Drew.
Nightengale names the prospect-rich Red Sox among the teams that may have interest in the 26-year-old shortstop. After a breakout season in 2008, Drew has regressed to a .259/.323/.430 line with 12 homers and 59 RBI in 498 at-bats. The Diamondbacks may look to deal him before negotiating a long-term deal with his agent Scott Boras.

Stephen Drew revealed Tuesday that his wife is having complications with her pregnancy and that he may need to miss more time.
Drew missed two games earlier this week because of the situation and told reporters it is still weighing heavily on his mind. "Family is first for me, always," he said. "It's just one of those things where it's unknown and we're just hoping for the best... I just hope I don't get that phone call."

Stephen Drew went 3-for-5 and drove in Arizona's only run in Sunday's loss.
Drew is hitting .303 and slugging .514 since the beginning of June. It's not leading to particularly big run and RBI numbers, since his teammates haven't been very good at all, but he is doing just fine.
