Duffy was expendable once Jody Gerut was acquired. Duffy has never matched the .341 average he posted in his first 126 at-bats with Pittsburgh back in 2005. It's time to stop waiting for him to do so.

Brewers purchased the contract of outfielder Chris Duffy.
Duffy will fill the role originally expected to belong to Tony Gwynn Jr. He should have some fantasy value if the Brewers lose an outfielder for any length of time, but he'll serve as a pinch-hitter and pinch-runner for the most part.

Tony Gwynn Jr. is expected to be waived from the Brewers on Friday.
Gwynn is out of options and didn't perform well enough to land a spot on the final roster after missing the first half of spring training with a strained right shoulder. The Brewers will hope the 26-year-old can clear waivers and land in Triple-A Nashville. The move leaves Chris Duffy and Brad Nelson as the Brewers' backup outfielders.

Tony Gwynn Jr. (shoulder) is scheduled to play center field Saturday.
Being sidelined by a shoulder injury may have dropped Gwynn behind Chris Duffy, Trot Nixon and Brad Nelson for what looks like two bench spots, but because he's out of minor league options the Brewers will have to make a decision on him either way by the end of camp.

Chris Duffy and Trot Nixon both homered as the the Brewers beat the Rockies 8-6 on Tuesday.
It looked like Duffy, Nixon and Brad Nelson were competing for one spot on Milwaukee's bench, but now there might be room for two with Tony Gwynn Jr. potentially starting the year on the DL. Duffy is 5-for-17 and has a triple and a double to go along with his homer. The homer for Nixon is his only hit in 13 at-bats so far.

Brewers signed outfielder Chris Duffy to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
It may be too late after three straight off years, but Duffy will finally receive the change of scenery he needed. The 28-year-old got hurt again last season and wasn't particularly impressive in the minors when healthy, hitting .266/.336/.413 in 109 at-bats. As a quality defensive center fielder, a left-handed hitter and an excellent basestealer, he should have some value as a major league bench player. However, he'll probably have to go down to Triple-A and hit his way back.
