Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald writes that there is no truth to the rumor that the Marlins are in trade talks with the Red Sox -- or anyone else -- regarding Hanley Ramirez.
Spencer was responding to Bill Madden's piece from the New York Daily News that suggested the Red Sox were in talks with the Marlins about Ramirez. The rumor is a bit fantastical since the Marlins have Ramirez under contract at a reasonable cost through 2014. Unless they are blown away, he's not going anywhere.

Bill Madden of the New York Daily News reports the Red Sox are talking to the Marlins about reacquiring shortstop Hanley Ramirez.
Hard to believe. Ramirez is locked up through 2014 and recently finished second in the MVP balloting. There's no earthly reason Florida should be interested in moving the 25-year old unless Boston completely unloads their farm system. The Sox will have to look elsewhere for a shortstop upgrade.

The Marlins plan to have a 2010 payroll of $36 million.
Or just $4 million more than the Yankees will pay A-Rod alone. With a payroll of $36.8 million in 2009, the Marlins have some maneuvering to do if they hope to hit their target. They struck earlier this week, shedding about $3 million in potential salary by dealing Jeremy Hermida. Other candidates to exit stage left are Dan Uggla, Jorge Cantu and a bevy of middle relievers.

Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez will remain with the club through at least next season, reports FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
Rumors had been flying, for some reason, that Gonzalez's job might be on the line. "There is nothing to that — zero," Rosenthal's source said, noting that the Marlins are pleased with their skipper. The Fish won 87 games this year -- the third highest total in franchise history -- and did it with a payroll under $40 million.

Hanley Ramirez is not in the lineup for Sunday's regular season finale.
Ramirez left Saturday's game with a bruised knee. He finishes the season with a .342 mark, which should give him the NL batting title. Jorge Cantu is also out Sunday, and in a walking boot, after spraining his right ankle during Saturday's game.

Hanley Ramirez left Saturday's game with a right knee contusion.
Ramirez likely suffered the injury while stealing third base in the first inning. He's unlikely to play in Sunday's season finale, but basically wrapped up his first NL batting title this afternoon with a .342 mark. Albert Pujols, his main competition, finished 0-for-4 against the Brewers.
