Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News confirms that the Mets are intrigued by free agent right-hander Joel Pineiro.
SI.com's Jon Heyman first suggested the connection last week but noted that Pineiro's current asking price (thought to be around three years, $30 million) might be a bit high for the Mets. The 31-year-old Type B free agent went 15-12 this season with a 3.49 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and MLB-leading 60.2 GB% in 32 starts. His 1.14 BB/9 was a four-year low in Major League Baseball.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports the Mets have interest in free agent Joel Pineiro but aren't thrilled with his current price tag.
Pineiro, a Type B free agent, went 15-12 this season with a 3.49 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and MLB-leading 60.2 GB% in 32 starts this season. Heyman expects his price tag to be in the neighborhood of three-years, $30 million.

Joel Pineiro was charged with four runs -- three earned -- in five innings versus the Brewers on Sunday.
He struck out four, walked one, and gave up six hits. Pinerio's magic pixie dust wore off in August, as he gave up eight homers during the final two months after allowing just three during the first four months. The Cardinals' can't be too confident in him given his 4.97 ERA since the start of September, but they will run him out there against the Dodgers anyway.

If the schedule plays out as planned, Chris Carpenter will start Game 1 of the NLDS for the Cardinals.
Adam Wainwright will start Game 2, and Joel Pineiro will start Game 3. "Carp's the acknowledged leader of our staff — and Adam is closing quickly," manager Tony La Russa said Wednesday. It's a heck of a one-two punch.

Joel Pineiro was knocked around for seven runs over six innings in a 7-2 loss to the Reds on Tuesday night.
Denied for win No. 16, it was the most runs Pineiro had allowed in a start since August 4 against the Mets. It was the first time Pineiro had allowed more than one home run in a start all season. His ERA jumped to 3.44 in the loss. Though plans could change, he might have a final chance to equal his career-high in wins against the Brewers on Sunday.

Joel Pineiro tossed seven innings of one-run ball in an 11-2 win over the Astros on Tuesday night, trimming the Cardinals magic number to two.
It was his first win since Sept. 1. Pineiro limited the Astros to just five hits while striking out four and walking two. As usual, he induced 12 groundballs, including a double play. Pineiro is now 15-11 with a 3.24 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 30 starts this season. He'll likely face the Reds in a favorable matchup next week.
