Lenny DiNardo has opted for free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Omaha.
DiNardo put together an excellent season in the minors, but was punished to the tune of a 10.13 ERA and 2.63 WHIP in five starts with the Royals down the stretch. The 30-year-old southpaw will take his 5.36 career ERA elsewhere.

 Lenny DiNardo-S - Royals Oct. 2 - 11:33 pm et

Lenny DiNardo was tagged for seven runs -- five earned -- over one-plus inning in a 10-7 loss to the Twins on Friday night.
DiNardo didn't last long, failing to record an out in the second inning before being relieved by Victor Marte. He threw 46 pitches over the inning-plus of work, allowing six hits -- including a homer -- while walking two and striking out none. He finishes at 0-3 with a 9.28 ERA and 2.58 WHIP over five starts this season. The Royals can surely do better than this, right?
 Lenny DiNardo-S - Royals Sep. 22 - 12:20 am et

Lenny DiNardo was roughed up by the Red Sox for eight runs on 10 hits over five innings on Monday night.
It doesn't get much worse than this. DiNardo issued six walks and failed to strike out a batter, throwing only half of his 116 pitches in the strike zone. DiNardo now holds a hideous 8.22 ERA, but may remain in the rotation for lack of better options.
 Lenny DiNardo-S - Royals Sep. 10 - 5:37 pm et

Making his 2009 debut, Lenny DiNardo gave up two runs in five innings Thursday in a no-decision aganist the Tigers.
DiNardo left with a one-run lead, but that was blown quickly in the sixth inning. The journeyman could remain in the rotation with Gil Meche sidelined and Brian Bannister's status up in the air.
 Brian Bannister-S - Royals Sep. 10 - 1:45 pm et

Brian Bannister is headed to New York to get a second opinion on whatever is ailing him.
As far as we know, Bannister is suffering from shoulder fatigue. The Royals are refusing to divulge what they have diagnosed in Bannister, or if he could pitch again this year. It doesn't sound good. Lenny DiNardo should remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future.

 Lenny DiNardo-S - Royals Sep. 8 - 5:54 pm et

Royals purchased the contract of LHP Lenny DiNardo from Triple-A Omaha.
DiNardo hasn't appeared in the majors this season, but was 1-2 with a 7.43 ERA in 11 games (two starts) with the Athletics in 2008. He should immediately join the rotation for a start on Thursday against the Tigers, enabling the Royals to push Zack Greinke back a day. DiNardo was 10-5 with a 3.32 ERA in 29 games (23 starts) with Triple-A Omaha this season.
