Pirates non-tendered LHP Phil Dumatrait.
The Pirates kept wanting to give Dumatrait opportunities, but he could never stop getting hurt. He's currently sitting on a 7.06 ERA in 17 starts and 25 relief appearances as a major leaguer. That's minor league contract material.

Phil Dumatrait will not start the first game of the twinbill Monday.
Dumatrait pitched in relief Saturday, knocking him out of consideration for the start. The Pirates will have to recall a pitcher, likely either Eric Hacker or Virgil Vazquez.

Pirates activated LHP Phil Dumatrait from the 60-day disabled list.
It's his season debut. Dumatrait will pitch out of the bullpen and serve as a spot starter. He's considered the favorite to start one game of an Aug. 31 doubleheader against the Reds.

Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that LHP Phil Dumatrait is joining the Pirates' bullpen.
No word on the corresponding move. Dumatrait was rehabbing in Triple-A from a sore shoulder and is under consideration for a starting rotation spot. He hasn't appeared in the majors this season.

Phil Dumatrait (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch out of the Triple-A Indianapolis bullpen on Wednesday night.
The next step after that is for the Pirates to determine whether or not Dumatrait is ready to join the big league club, and according to manager John Russell, Dumatrait could start one game of an Aug. 31 doubleheader against the Reds. Out since having shoulder surgery in April, the 28-year-old had a 5.26 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 78 2/3 innings for the Pirates last season.
