The Marlins and RHP Anibal Sanchez avoided arbitration Monday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.25 million contract.
Sanchez has struggled since breaking into the league with a 2.83 ERA over 18 appearances in his rookie season. He finished 2009 with a lousy 4-8 record, 3.87 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. Expectations aren't too high for the right-hander heading into the upcoming season, but he is still quite young.

 Anibal Sanchez-S - Marlins Oct. 3 - 7:58 pm et

Anibal Sanchez limited the Phillies to one earned run over seven innings Saturday as the Marlins grabbed a 4-3 victory.
Sanchez held the Phils to five hits and tallied three strikeouts. He'll finish the season with a 4-8 record, 3.87 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 16 starts. The 25-year-old right-hander showed a little improvement over his 2008 numbers, but still has miles to go before he can be considered an effective starter.
 Anibal Sanchez-S - Marlins Sep. 28 - 10:24 pm et

Anibal Sanchez issued eight walks over five innings in a loss to the Braves on Monday night.
Hard to watch. Sanchez allowed only two hits and three runs over the five frames, but threw only 42 of his 91 pitches for strikes while handing out free pass after free pass. The total of eight walks sets a new career high, and doubles his previous season high. He's got one more start to try and regain some confidence before the season ends, but unfortunately it comes on the road in Philly.
 Anibal Sanchez-S - Marlins Sep. 22 - 11:05 pm et

Anibal Sanchez and Leo Nunez combined on a two-hit shutout as the Marlins took the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader over the Phillies 3-0.
Sanchez was brilliant, allowing only a pair of singles to Chase Utley, while walking two and striking out seven. Leo Nunez came on for a hitless ninth, securing his 24th save. Sanchez has shown flashes of past brilliance at various points this season, but he just hasn't been able to stay on the field with any regularity. Hopefully 2010 will change that. He is 3-7 with a 4.01 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 14 starts this season.
 Anibal Sanchez-S - Marlins Sep. 17 - 10:32 pm et

Anibal Sanchez yielded three runs over five innings in a 3-2 loss to the Reds on Thursday night.
Sanchez gave up three runs on three hits and two walks in the first, but allowed just two hits and one walk over four scoreless innings from there. He matched a season-high with seven strikeouts. Though he hasn't won since returning from the disabled list, Sanchez has a 3.48 ERA over the four starts.
 Anibal Sanchez-S - Marlins Sep. 6 - 4:45 pm et

Anibal Sanchez pitched six innings of shutout ball in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday.
Sanchez left with a two-run lead, but the Marlins pen couldn't hold it. He's gone 1-2 with a 2.61 ERA in four starts since returning from his latest round of shoulder woes.
