Buster Olney of ESPN.com writes that Brandon Lyon's agent Barry Meister expects the pitcher to get a multi-year contract.
Lyon is open to being a set-up man again, which would make him attractive to the Phillies and Angels, as Olney suggests. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 6.43 ERA at the end of May, but posted a 1.56 ERA from June 1 on, finishing the season with a very respectable 2.86 ERA.

Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said Tuesday that payroll limitations will prevent the club from retaining some of their free agents this winter.
Detroit closer Fernando Rodney, second baseman Placido Polanco, reliever Brandon Lyon and shortstop Adam Everett have the right to move on this winter and all of of them might do so. The Tigers had a $120 million payroll this season and suffered a "noticeable dip" in attendance, according to Dombrowski. Rodney, specifically, is coming off a career-high 37 saves and is likely to command a multi-year deal worth over $10 million a season.

Tigers closer Fernando Rodney's suspension has been reduced from three games to two games.
The penalty was for throwing a ball into the Tropicana Field press box after he closed out a Tigers' win on September 4. Rodney will miss Monday's series finale against the Blue Jays and Tuesday's contest against the Royals. This really doesn't affect his fantasy value -- Rodney was already set to get Monday off after pitching in the first three games of the Toronto series. Brandon Lyon is the best bet to get a save opportunity if one presents itself over the next two days.

Tigers closer Fernando Rodney has been suspended three games for throwing a ball into the Tropicana Field press box on September 4.
Rodney, who has 32 saves on the year, claimed it was an act of celebration, but Major League Baseball clearly saw things differently. Brandon Lyon is likely to fill in as closer for the next few days.

With Fernando Rodney getting the first of two scheduled days off, Brandon Lyon pitched a perfect ninth for his second save Saturday in the Tigers' 8-6 win over the Rays.
If Lyon was guaranteed $4.25 million, he probably wouldn't have made the Tigers out of spring training. However, he's bounced back from a disastrous March and a rough start to the regular season to drag his ERA all of the way down to 2.89. He's put himself in line to receive a multiyear deal as a free agent this winter.

Brandon Lyon recorded his first save of the year with 1 2/3 scoreless innings against the Orioles on Thursday.
It was a four-run game to start the ninth, so Lyon stayed in. He's pitched 10 2/3 scoreless innings in his last nine appearances, lowering his ERA to 3.12.
