The Mets continue to have an active dialogue with free agent John Smoltz, according to Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News.
The Mets evidently view Smoltz as a starter and he would certainly fit the bill as a back-end option in the rotation. Smoltz, who turns 43 in May, found some success with a switch back to the National League late last season, posting a 4.26 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 40/9 K/BB ratio in seven starts with the Cardinals down the stretch. Ben Sheets and Jon Garland are two other rotation options for the Mets, according to Rubin. Source: New York Daily News
