The Rangers and OF Josh Hamilton avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.25 million contract.
Hamilton's deal also comes with several performance-based incentives, including a $100,000 payout for capturing the American League MVP and another $100,000 for World Series MVP. He was limited to 89 games last season but still batted .268/.315/.426 with 10 home runs and 54 RBI.

According to Rangers manager Ron Washington, Julio Borbon is officially the club's new center fielder and leadoff hitter.
Josh Hamilton will move to left field and Nelson Cruz will play right. David Murphy, meanwhile, will be the fourth outfielder and also occasionally play designated hitter. If the team signs Marlon Byrd, this entire hierarchy would change, but that doesn't appear likely at this point. Byrd has said he will probably decline the team's arbitration offer, and Texas is probably better off taking the Type B compensation he will net them by leaving.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Rangers are planning to slide Josh Hamilton to a corner outfield spot next season.
Sherman writes that the Rangers would make the move in order to protect Hamilton's "fragile body." Limited to just 89 games in 2009 due to various injuries, Hamilton batted .268/.315/.426 with 10 home runs and 54 RBI. He started 55 games in center field in 2009, but is no stranger to right field, either, having started 58 games there over the past two seasons. If the Rangers are unable to re-sign Marlon Byrd, look for Julio Borbon or Craig Gentry to be considered for center field.

Hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo turned down a one-year offer and will not be returning to the Rangers next season.
Jaramillo, the team's hitting coach for the past 15 seasons, is certain to catch on elsewhere. Meanwhile, the Rangers will take their hitting approach in a different direction after finishing a disappointing seventh in runs scored among AL teams in 2009.

Josh Hamilton (back) has been shut down for the rest of the season.
Hamilton has played in just two games since September 2 due to a pinched nerve in his back. The Rangers have just six games remaining on their schedule. The 28-year-old will finish with a .268/.315/.426 batting line, 10 home runs and 54 RBI in 336 at-bats.
